Videos: Massive Fire Destroys HWP Building

August 8, 2011

It took 20 fire trucks, 60 firefighters, 3.5 hours and water reserves from Mills Creek to finally extinguish the massive fire that destroyed HWP on St Johns Road in Pembroke this afternoon [Aug.8].

Flames leaped from the building sending smoke billowing over the central areas of Bermuda, while the fire ripped through destroying the offices, cars and more.

Thanks to an all out effort from the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service, there were no reported injuries nor did the fire spread to surrounding buildings. The Department of Health issued a statement encouraging all residents in the area to protect their rain water supplies from smoke and soot caused by the HWP fire.

The police asked “all individuals within a one mile radius of the St. John’s Road area to please stay inside as it is not clear at this time whether the smoke in the air is toxic or not,” and said all businesses in the surrounding areas were evacuated.
