Kim Swan To Stand For Re-Election

September 27, 2011

kim swan bermudaThe UBP’s Kim Swan has confirmed he will stand for re-election in Constituency #2 St. George’s West in the next general election.

The former Opposition Leader is one of the last two MPs under the UBP banner, serving alongside Charles Swan.

In 2008 the UBP held 14 seats in the House of Assembly; however three MPs split to form the BDA and later OBA, two MPs quit to sit as independents and later as PLP MPs, and seven MPs left to form the OBA.

Mr Swan said, “Provided God Almighty spares my life and continues to bless me and my family with good health and strength – it is my plan to seek the favour of the good people of St. George’s West #2 again and pursue re-election at the next General Election”. He did not specify exactly what party he would be running for.

Mr Swan served the UBP in the Senate for 9 years [1998–2007], and contested several general elections before winning a seat in the House of Assembly in 2007. In 2007 Mr Swan beat the PLP’s Dean Foggo by 17 votes [457-440], with the constituency having a voter turnout of 77%.

The OBA has not yet declared a candidate for the constituency, while the PLP will be holding their candidate selection meeting for St. George’s West this evening [Sept.27].

    This should be interesting!

    • Rob says:

Go Terry! Why is it that the UBP is starting to sound like Heaven!

    • PEPPER says:

Andre,I agree with you it should be interesting…but what the hell is Kim trying to prove ? most people I have talked to think he lost his mind …..

  2. Terry says:

He’s a good man. Go for it Kim.

  3. Vote says:

I live in the St. George’s and will vote for Mr. Swan. I did not vote for him in the last election, but this election he will get my vote because he cares about the community and he’s the only politician I see around St. George all year.

    • Black Soil says:

What part of stupid ville did you just walk out of. You didn’t vote for him when he was part of a viable opposition, and now you want to vote for him when he is a party of two. Put down that crack pipe.

  4. Goodluck says:

I applaud Mr Swan for standing on principles and not just following the crowd. Most of those that switched to the OBA have done it for personal gain and/or a vendetta against the PLP. They didn’t support Mr. Swan when he was Leader. He took over the Leadership at a crucial time when none of them wanted to captain a sinking ship. It is sickening that they just dismiss him now that he isn’t on ‘their’ team. Sickening, but not at all surprising.
I wonder how soon Mr. Cannonier will learn…

    • ? says:

The Swans made their decision to not join the OBA, they were not dismissed they chose to stay and that was their choice. get your facts in order

      • Facts says:

They were dismissed while the man attended his father funeral. How low can those who now wants vote from the ordinary Bermudians community? Vote never for leeches in that party!

  5. Winnie says:

Well talking about sticking to your principles, heres
‘s the man. All who crossed over to wherever and all who accepted them, we certainly can’t say that about them.

  6. Sharon says:

Kim Swan is a soldier! Stand firm mate!

  7. Dispatcher #48 says:

He is a great guy and he will get my vote for what he stands for his community. Some might find him to be very out spoken on some matters but I like that in him there is no doubt he will do well. I trust that God will bring him to a victory for St.Georges and lets bring this community back to life the first town of Bermuda. Last note one thing for sure he makes his rounds just checking on things in St.Georges.

  8. Honest Broker says:

Mr. Swan, I wish I could vote for 10 like you. Honest and reliable! Pay not attention to those that cry you down, God does not like ugly!

  9. Clinton J. A. Paynter OBA Affiliated says:

I glory in your spirit cousin… Best of luck to you and the UBP!

  10. A PLP Supporter says:

    Mr. Swan

I have a lot of respect for you..Stand strong hopefully your com-padres will not run a candidate against you, as to not split the right wing vote… and should the OBA win the Government hopefully they will form a coalition government with you and offer you a ministerial position… It’s just the right thing to to do.

  11. Face the Nation says:

Much love and respect … Go for it !!!

  12. Sad says:

With Kim Swan only winning by 17 votes in the last General Election, this will only give the PLP’s candidate for this constituency the upper hand in the next election.
