Rider Injured In Causeway Collision

November 11, 2011

[Updated] Around 6.40pm last night [Nov.10] emergency personnel responded to an accident at the eastern end of the causeway which involved a motorcycle and taxi.

Traffic flow was temporarily halted to and from the east end as EMTs arrived on the scene and tended to the injured motorcycle, who was then transported to King Edward Memorial Hospital via ambulance with an injured leg.

While the traffic was halted we saw people – who appeared to be airline passengers – abandoning their transport and walking across to the nearby airport carrying their luggage in hand.

A short time later, police were able to establish single lane flow of traffic, re-establishing access to the east end of the island.

Update: A police spokesperson said, “Around 6:40pm on Thursday, police responded to a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury along the Causeway in St. George’s involving a taxi and a motorcycle.”

“The motorcycle rider, a 51 year old Hamilton parish man, sustained a leg injury and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment.”

“The taxi driver, a 36 year old Pembroke man, was not injured. Traffic was delayed in the area as a result. Inquiries into this incident are underway.”

PLEASE READ: STOP being fooled into thinking: 1. you can drive drunk or high 2. you can ride better than the next fool overtaking on the inside 3. the road on which you are riding or the wall that you hit will move out of the way 4. that you won’t be the next road fatality because you are a good rider. We all fail in following the laws of the road, but when the pedal hits the metal, will you be a statistic, victim or a “survivor”

If you look close you’d see that it is a Fire Department vehicle following the ambulance. Open your eyes before you open your mouth in attempt to say something profound but instead say something profoundly dumb. Think about that.

  4. No one was drunk in this accident. Taxis need to be more considerate before trying to pick up tourist who were not interested in being taxied. The taxi was parked on a double yellow line without flashing light and the motorcyle had nowhere to go once coming around the blind bend. Looks like he had to go either on the inside which would have been illegal or over take on the outside which was not enough room to clear the taxi. TAXIS NEED TO THINK OF OTHERS ON THE ROAD……
