[Updated] Shortly after 4.30pm this afternoon [Apr.5] emergency services responded to what we understand to be a report of an unresponsive male at the dive shop at Grotto Bay Hotel.

Shortly after 6pm, what appears to be the police forensic unit could be seen at the dock area, along with uniformed police officers and marked police cars. Details are limited at this time, but we will update with an official statement as able.

Update 7.21pm: A police spokesperson said, “Around 4.35pm police received a telephone call from Bermuda Radio concerning a missing diver in the waters off of Grotto Bay Hotel.

“As a result, police divers and a Bermuda Police Service marine vessel attended the area to search for the missing man. He was located in the waters a short time later in an unresponsive state and was immediately given first aid while awaiting the arrival of an ambulance.

“He was conveyed to KEMH where he was pronounced dead at 6.35pm. Police are not treating this incident as suspicious. No further information will be released until the next of kin has been notified.
