Spelling Bee Champ Meets Washington Wizards

Bermuda’s 2011 Spelldown Champion Nasir Simmons was hosted by the NBA’s Washington Wizards during his family’s all expenses paid trip to Washington DC won as the grand prize in that competition.

Nasir and his family were invited to attend the team’s shoot around prior to the Wizard’s game on April 10 versus the Orlando Magic. During the pre-game activities Bermuda’s spelling champ met basketball legend Patrick Ewing and several of the Wizard’s players and was given a tour of the arena.

Currently a student at Somersfield Academy, Nasir Simmons won the 2011 Spelldown Competition at the Ruth Seaton James Auditorium in April 2011. Since then he has been honored by the Mayor of St. George’s and read the proclamation for National Youth Week.

    Nasir has always been a little genius so this isn’t surprising…both he and his brother are very intelligent, well-mannered young men. I can’t believe how grown up they’re getting-look at Stephen…he even has facial hair (lol)-he’s really a young man now and I remember when he was little, and it seems like just yesterday that Nasir was born.
