June 22, 2012

Bermuda’s Jessica Lewis has qualified for her third event at the London 2012 Paralympics Games, with confirmation coming that she is eligible in the 400m with her recently established B Standard time.

Ms Lewis recently competed in the Ian Hume Track Meet in Sherbrook Quebec. She took part in the 400m, where she took 4 seconds off her previous personal vest time of 1.10.61, and achieved the London Paralympics B Standard with a time of 1.06.27.

An excited Ms Lewis said, “I got confirmation that I will be able to compete in the 400m race with my B Standard because I have the A Standard in the 100m and 200m.I still have 2 more races and I am determined to get the A Standard in the 400m.”

The 19-year-old — who previously qualified in both the 100m and 200m — will be the first Bermudian to compete in track and field at Paralympic level. The 2012 Summer Paralympic Games will take place in London between 29 August and 9 September, following after the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
