Minister of Business Development and Tourism Wayne Furbert, represented Bermuda through a variety of special events during the Caribbean Tourism Association’s [CTO] annual Caribbean Week in New York City June 5-7.

Along with his business- and media-oriented engagements, the Minister honoured American athlete and TV personality John Layfield during a special ceremony, paying tribute to Mr Layfield’s advocacy work for the island and its citizens.

The Minister, along with Director of Tourism William Griffith, kicked-off Caribbean Week with an Investment Power Forum attended by high net-worth individuals and institutional investors as well as fellow ministers, commissioners and directors of tourism. Beyond networking with potential investors, the Minister and Director met with top New York-based consumer and trade media during the Caribbean Media Marketplace event held at New York’s Marriot Marquis Hotel. They both participated in several one-on-one interviews with key media outlets, during which they discussed the island’s recent developments, general travel offerings and upcoming events.

“Bermuda’s presence at Caribbean Week gives us the opportunity to showcase our island’s distinct offerings,” said Minister Furbert. “We’re pleased to have gained major exposure with top New York-based media and investors, and look forward to following up on the connections we’ve established this week.”

The Bermuda Department of Tourism was also represented at special events hosted by North America’s two largest travel magazines, Conde Nast Traveler and Travel+Leisure. Other engagements included a Media Awards Luncheon for ministers, commissioners and directors of tourism, and a Council of Tourism meeting for ministers and commissioners.
