Anniversary: Digicel To Donate $7.5K To Charity

December 5, 2012

Digicel Bermuda is celebrating seven successful years of operation in Bermuda, and in honour of their 7th anniversary they will be donating $7,500 to three local charities.

Wayne Caines, CEO of Digicel Bermuda comments, “We wish to thank all of our customers for seven years of success and growth. I want to remind all of our customers that my team and I remain fully committed to providing you with the best possible service, network, care and value in Bermuda. There is no better way to celebrate our anniversary than giving back to the community that we are a part of.”

A statement from the Company said: “Since its launch in 2005, Digicel Bermuda has grown tremendously and continues to be the largest mobile carrier in Bermuda with more than 50% of market share.

“There have been many great milestones achieved in the past year. Since purchasing local Internet service provider Transact Limited in September 2011, the home Internet and long distance market has seen innovative promotions that benefit customers with increased competition and better pricing. Most recently, Digicel Bermuda launched 15 Mb and 25 Mb home Internet plans, providing Bermudians with speeds previously unseen on the island.

“In the Integrated Communications Technology (ICT) market, Digicel Bermuda was pleased to introduce the new Digicel Business brand to Bermuda along with its new Business Solutions products. Offering such services as cloud computing, virtual desktop and dedicated Internet access, Digicel Business is well positioned for future growth by providing key technological solutions to the local corporate market.

“With the launch of the new Be Extraordinary brand in May 2012, Digicel Bermuda was able to completely renew all of its communications and refresh the look of its two retail stores in Hamilton. The rebrand served as an opportune time to launch new plans, including prepaid data for non-BlackBerry smartphones. Digicel was also the first carrier to offer prepaid data in Bermuda.

“Community involvement is incredibly important to the Digicel Bermuda team, which has been reflected in the sponsorships awarded in the past year. Digicel donated $5,000 to the Coalition for Protection of Children’s Breakfast for Every Child Programme, which ensures children receive a nutritious start to their school day.

“In this Olympic year, Digicel was pleased to provide sponsorship to the Bermuda Olympic Association, helping the Bermuda team attend the Games in London. Digicel continued its support of Tomorrow’s Voices Bermuda Autism Early Intervention Centre with the donation of iPad devices and sponsored Wi-Fi service.

“Digicel Bermuda is devoted to the youth of Bermuda, particularly in the sporting arena. Some notable sporting sponsorship activities from the past year include sponsorship of the Fraser Match Racing team for the Argo Gold Cup, the Bermuda Squash team, United FC youth soccer team, local cyclist Dominique Mayho, Bermudian squash athlete Micah Franklin, and the Interschool Fitness Challenge. Additionally, Digicel was pleased to provide telecommunications for the PGA Grand Slam of Golf.

“Continuing the theme of community service into its 7th anniversary celebrations, Digicel Bermuda staff members are donating their time to wrap gifts for the Toys for Tots Programme, as well as cooking then serving meals to families in need through the Hamilton Seventh Day Adventist Church’s Feeding Programme.

“Finally, Digicel staff members will also assist with feeding those in need as part of the annual Christmas dinner organized by the Salvation Army of Bermuda. In total, $7,500 will be donated to these three local charities in order to honour Digicel’s 7th year of operation in Bermuda.
