Progressive Labour Party’s Easter Message

March 29, 2013

“On behalf of my Progressive Labour Party colleagues, I wish to extend best wishes to Bermudians here and across the globe as we celebrate this very special Christian event,” Deputy PLP Leader Derrick Burgess said.

“Jesus instructed us to, ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ To build a happier, less divisive Bermuda, we must begin to challenge our basic assumptions about how our society should work,” Mr Burgess continued.

“Should we be happy to have a job while our brothers and sisters are unemployed? Should we be happy to eat well while our brothers and sisters go hungry?

“Should we be happy to be surrounded by friends and loved ones with a roof over our heads while our brothers and sisters are homeless?

“We believe that Bermudians are the most talented, resourceful and loving people in the world. Yet in our pursuit of the almighty dollar we can sometimes forget those we’ve left behind.

“Let us observe Easter in peace, love and brotherhood and let us seek to build a Bermuda where no one is left out and no one is left behind. No matter our personal faiths and religious beliefs, we can all agree that Bermudians united can overcome anything.

“As you enjoy this time with your family and friends, let us emerge from this weekend together, working towards making a Bermuda that works for all of us, a reality,” concluded Mr Burgess.

  2. Everett Outerbridge says:

A nice message – thanks for reminding us of the needs that exist all around us, especially during these difficult times.

Whilst there is a collective responsibility to help to relieve the needs of our fellow men, there is much we can do as an individual as well. Let us all become and army of one and help those in need who exist all around us.

WOW. Did that come from one of the biggest raciest on the Island? I guess a 10+ year sentence of being in opposition has allowed D. B. to find the Lord. U go.

  4. Hey says:

Off you go Burgess, give ALL your money away except for enough for your rent and your food…go on hurry up, walk the talk. OR is it ONCE AGAIN DO AS I SAY NOT AS I DO.

  5. Building a better Bermuda says:

An interesting message from a party and person who’s mantra is divide along racial lines and conquer.

  6. Rick Rock says:

Ironic that all this stuff about helping the jobless and homeless comes from the most selfish groups of people I’ve ever seen. They didn’t give a rats a$$ about the 4,000 unemployed when they were in power. Too busy running off to Satellite Conferences in Paris and Women’s Awards in San Fran. Whenever businesses closed over the last few years of PLP power, their standard response was to say it was a ‘useless’ business to begin with, and the employees ‘deserved’ to be unemployed.

And now he’s worried about the homeless? That’s easy to say, now that he, Chris Furbert, LaVerne, Ewart, are all rich mansion-owning tycoons, magically obtained during their time in power.

Even now do they do anything positive? No. They come out every few weeks and pratt around complaining that the new government hasn’t reduced the debt yet.

    What bunch of hypocritical idiots.

  7. lilbitmoretogo says:

Who is jesus and why should we be concerned with what he said? this time of year is not about someone that died coming back to life, as we all know that that is impossible!!If jesus is also supposed to be god than we all would be dead if god died! Are there any more bright ideas about this time of year, can’t someone make an educated comment based on truthful facts.

  9. Concerned says:

I will not trust the PLP for a very long time. Sorry, you won’t get my vote again!

  10. god1st says:

This ideology about Jesus dying and rising from the grave concept comes from Greekology and Roman mythology. This holiday in which many blacks celebrate don’t know the history behind the myth, for this form of celebration is totally Europeanised.

Nothing against you Mr. Burgess as you have my full support moving foward .

  11. Bermuda Boy says:

god1st, with your way of thinking, you would follow Mr. Burgess anywhere wouldn’t you!
