March 7, 2013

In what the Australian media is calling the “art sale of the century,” paintings from the personal collection of Reg Grundy are expected to fetch up to $20 million when they go under the hammer in June.

Mr Grundy — a part time Bermuda resident — is best known as the television producer behind a legion of Australia’s most popular television shows, including Neighbors, Prisoner and Sale of the Century.

This painting from the Grundy Collection, by Eugene von Guerard, is estimated to be worth up to $1.2m:

Australian auction house Bonhams estimates that some of the paintings will fetch anywhere from $900,000 – $2 million per piece.

Bonhams Australia Chairman, Mark Fraser, said: “The Grundy Collection is a beautifully balanced vision of Australian art. It is based on connoisseurship and absolute focus on quality, with a stunning selection of works that could be included in museum collections.”
