Slideshow: Premier Dances With Gombeys

May 27, 2013

The Premier traditionally dances with the Gombeys during the Bermuda Day Parade and this year was no exception with Premier Craig Cannonier showing off some moves on Front Street.

The Premier was cheered on by the crowds as he made his way into the street to join in with the Gombeys, where he danced away to the sounds of the drum beat while carrying the traditional Tomahawk.

The island’s preeminent — and oldest — folk art, the Gombey tradition dates from the 17th century and was created by slaves brought to Bermuda from West Africa, the Caribbean and North America.

    • Puppet says:

Too bad he’s just a puppet. Seems that he’s in hiding and he’s letting the real powers (Dunkley, Gibbons, etc.) run the show. He gets the salary, the house and the perks. They do the work. Sounds like a good deal to me!

      • Victor says:

        Sore loser…

        • Jury says:

You are the sore loser. Its True! He sold his soul for all what @Puppet said.

          • JMad says:

How did he sell his soul? Please elaborate and don’t hold back on what you really mean.

And you guys have the nerve to complain about racism while practicing and preaching it everyday?! SMH

        • Bermewjan says:

Really – that’s the best you can come back with?

      • Bermewjan says:

Not such a good deal for the rest of Bermuda though. Keep telling the truth Puppet… maybe that will get these Ostriches to take their heads out of the sand some time soon.

  5. Clive Spate says:

  6. Victor says:

    Great stuff Premier.

You would never in a million years catch Ewart Brown behaving like a real Bermudian – no, with him it would be just more condescending, self-serving, patronizing snideness… Brown, take a look at some real character and leadership.

  7. Bobmarlin says:

Craig,a down to earth leader. He and his team are not elitist but people in touch with/for the people!
