BFRS Praise 14-Yr-Olds Who Extinguished Fire

July 12, 2013

Two 14-year-olds have been praised by the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service after they sprang to action and extinguished a small brush fire using buckets of water.

Yesterday afternoon [July 11] the BFRS received a report of a brush fire and upon their arrival discovered that two teenagers — D’Undre Seymour and Benjamin Furqan — had already extinguished the blaze,

Fire Service spokesperson Lt. Leonard Davis said, “The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of a brush fire in the area of Berkeley Road, Pembroke at approximately 3:30pm.

“One appliance attended and found that prior to their arrival, the fire had been extinguished. The area damaged by fire was approximately 5′x5′.

“What excited the members of the Fire Service was the fact that the individuals who extinguished the fire were both aged 14.

“They noticed the fire starting and ran to a nearby house to retrieve buckets of water to extinguish the fire. If they had not reacted so quickly, this fire could have easily started to burn out of control,” said Lt. Davis.

Sergeant Robert Fox said, “We are always so quick to recognize when young men in our community are doing wrong but rarely acknowledge the ones that do something positive.

“D’Undre Seymour and Benjamin Furqan did a positive deed and the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service would sincerely like to say ‘Thank You’ to these young men”.

  2. Keis says:

Just a thank you? Gosh, at least give them something like coming in to the fire station to see exactly what happens. Cheap people.

Great Job young men! Thanks for doing the right thing and thank you Bernews for allowing us to give them praise. As for @Keis…people with your attitude are what is wrong with society! This whole, expectant attitude many have sickens me. Stop asking, whats in it for me before doing the right thing, and just do the right thing! Sometimes, a thank you is enough.
