Armed Burglary In Southampton, Two Suspects
[Updated: Police confirm two suspects escaped on a motorcycle after gaining entry into a Southampton residence at about 2.30pm today, with one "brandishing what appeared to be a gun," while the other suspect had a “bladed article."]
There was some form of incident this afternoon [Oct 29] in Southampton, which unofficial reports indicate may have been a home invasion in which the suspect[s] wielded some form of weapon[s].
Police can seen in the area, and appear to be focused on a house located in the vicinity of Port Royal Gas station. Details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.
Update 4.25pm: Police spokesperson Robin Simmons confirmed that police responded to a report of a burglary at a residence on Middle Road in Southampton at approximately 2.30pm today.
He said two suspects gained entry into the premises, one “brandishing one what appeared to be a firearm” and one with a “bladed article.”
Update 4.32pm: Mr Simmons said the suspects — who were wearing dark clothes and dark helmets — escaped on a motorcycle heading in a westerly direction.
He also said there have not been reports of any injuries.

Around 2:30pm on Tuesday, October 29th police officers responded to a reported armed burglary at a Middle Road, Southampton residence.
It appears that two unknown men gained entry into the home. One of the suspects brandished what appeared to be a firearm, while the other apparently brandished a bladed article.
Both suspects, described as wearing dark coloured clothing and helmets, subsequently made good their escape on a motorcycle heading west. There were no reported injuries to the occupants of the residence.
Inquiries into this incident are ongoing and any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.

I come to stay with family every year from the uk and it really saddens me to read about the number of armed crimes that seem to be on the UP in such a small and beautiful Bermuda.I know that it is a very small percentage of probably drugged up people which also saddens me when I read about the increased number of drug related crime too. I really hope that the authorities can get on top of this as I love Bermuda so much and I have to say that THE MAJORITY of islanders are BEAUTIFUL friendly loving people
We know, it’s very sad isn’t it, fact is it’s all due to the fact we have a third world police service who the criminals laugh at . Unfortunately we have to live with it on a daily basis
This is not true at all. What makes you say the police service is ‘third world’?
I know a lot of the members of the Bermuda Police Service, from the top right on down to the newly recruited police constables. A lot of the problem that they are faced with in dealing with and apprehending suspects is the bureaucracy and politics which lie underneath. If it were up to them and them alone, you would then have another problem on your hands because you wouldn’t like the way they conducted their business. Instead of judging and criticising, do your part within the community to help.
Excuses excuses, and we are tired of lip service
We need more influence from the Met police. We need cctv out of the city as well. If a city the size of London can cover most of their streets, why can’t an island smaller than the smallest borough in London cover its streets?
I mean, the description is not going to get the police nowhere. “dark colored clothing with dark coloured helmets”? my grandpa wears dark colored clothing mate, and just about everyone has a dark colored helmet. The more cctv the less crime. We shouldnt wait till it gets worst to solve a problem, we should stop it in its tracks.
I agree, that descriptions applies to the vast majority of motorbike riders:-( Now if anything,remove the tinted facial shield that helps to block-out the individuals face when wearing them damn helmets. I also agree there need by some more, “strategically placed C.C.T.V.” cameras around this Island that can be of more assistance when the police are following-up on the information pertaining to the culprit/s…

the saf part is, they are not “little” a**holes. most of these guys are well into their 20′s if not early 30′s. stems from a greater problem!

Instead of “sitting off” in Somerset police station, they need to do more rounds. Make their presence known then these fools can’t move as they want! Oh BUT come West in the next few days, I’m sure you’ll see all of the police out and about. Pick it up BPS. BETTER STILL CHANGE IT BACK TO BERMUDA POLICE FORCE.

Seriously! Have you researched or visited any of the countries we refer to as third world? ? The violence, poverty, sex crimes etc.they are on another level. Yes it is very bad here. But I disagree (my opinion) with the comment about third world comparison.
As much as I hate to admit and no I do not know anything about this break situation. But more and more I am becoming less judgmental because we the general public are not given the whole story. We read what was reported at the time. Later on we may read about the details. Lately I have been reading what is reported and made my comments. Then I find out that there are little details which make you say ohh! Most reported situations are not as clear cut. I am not blaming anyone. The paper correctly and incorrectly reports on cases. We know that it happens. Some people leave out information when giving statements. So I am really trying to not jump to my own conclusions as if I was actually there in the situation.
How many times do we hear the description “Wearing dark helmets…..”??
Time to step and make the helmets with the blacked out visors illegal!! Set a date to ban them so they can replace the visors/helmets and then start pulling people over after that date if they aren’t complying.
Guns are illegal and so is home invasion last time I checked,so do you think another idiotic ban will deter these guys from doing whatever they please? Not likely ,how many people have been charged for a hoodie,another knee jerk legislation=waste of time and money.
I’m merely suggesting that the police have the power then to pull over someone wearing a dark helmet thereby increasing the chances of pulling over a suspect. If they are illegal then what other reason would you have to continue to wear them? By no means an answer to the problem but the more obstacles you put in their way the harder it makes them to commit these acts.
I hear everyone calling for more CCTV to cover the island, but no one is willing to address where the money to pay for and maintain it is gonna come from. Should we increase the already high taxes that we pay? Should we start increasing the penalties for traffic offences (speeding & parking, etc.)? Consider that we are putting it all on the Police Service and we are forgetting our responsibility to OUR community. We can all make a difference if we make the effort. Sitting back waiting for someone else to solve the problem has gotten us where we are today. Think about it Bermuda.
