IMG_00000107[Updated with video] At around 10.30am this morning [Oct 8] a large emergency response headed into St George’s, with the Police, Fire Service and ambulance personnel making their way east after what we understand to be an attack on a female police officer.

The ambulance left the scene at about 11am, and Police Officers appeared to be searching for someone in the area by Anchorage Lane.

Unofficial reports indicate that a man became abusive to someone in the area, and the police were called.

The person then became abusive to the officers, with bystanders saying it appeared he may have attacked a female police officer.

Mr Caines said the officer was taken to KEMH where they are being treated for their injuries and a “manhunt has commenced for the subject in the Ferry Reach/Anchorage Lane area of St George’s.”

Update 11.39am: The Police Canine Unit has joined the search

Update 12.08pm: Speaking at the scene, Inspector David Geraghty said that officers were called to an incident at Anchorage View Road at around 10.30am. A 56-year-old man become violent and then “made his escape.”

He said the female officer is being treated for injuries to her head which she received during the “violent confrontation.” The officer’s injuries are not life threatening. The search for the suspect continues.

Inspector Geraghty said, “I want to encourage any residents, in view of his violent behaviour, if they do see him please do not confront him, please call police on 911.”

Lol o no not another police man hunt! The only thing they goin find is they way home when its time 2 knock off lol

    • Karma says:

      That’s very helpful.

    • Fed Up says:

what an idiot, a female officer got hurt and that’s all you have to say.

      • Pebbles says:

Exactly Fed up! I mean are the public at risk what was the call for in the first place arguing with neighbors, weapon even the fact that there music was to loud. Could have even gone into a domestic situation. My understanding to that is that officers should not take sides, arrest if needed, or call for back up.Let me guess! Was she with another female officer? If she was with a male then why is she going into the situation why isn’t he trying to calm it down. Especially if it was a male. Like i say two sides to the story something triggered to have an officer attacked. Also how did he get away if she wasn’t alone. Should had been arrested, or back up called if you saw it was getting out of control. Doesn’t she not have handcuffs and a batten? Some of these officers think they can handle certain situations but they can’t. I have seen young female officers at calls in my area and they stand around doing nothing. Chatting to other officers instead of calming the situation. I think they went into it not knowing and tried to take control but something went wrong. Like i said the officers are wearing protective gear the public aren’t.

        • Sapphire says:

@Pebbles: It sounds like the police WERE trying to calm things down but the guy went ballistic. He’s obviously an unstable person if he also went ballistic at the vector control officer who just asked him to cover up his trash cans so mosquitoes don’t breed in there and give his ignorant azz dengue fever or something…why get so angry over that?

The female officer was with a male officer. The guy probably took her off guard-I’m sure she didn’t expect the guy to grab her and slam her head to the ground; something like that could have easily happened to a male officer as well.

I was wondering what happened because I’ve seen police going up and down from the East end-with a bunch of them on those scrambler type bikes so they are serious about getting this guy. I almost feel sorry for him-you know how the police act when one of their own is attacked and the fact that it was a female has them foaming at the mouth. I suspect the guy will ‘strongly resist arrest’ when the police find him (wink-wink)…

      • Micro says:

        An officer/person was hurt.
        Sex/gender is irrelevant.

        • ABM says:

Yet the words bing used and the way the police are conducting this search suggest otherwise.

    • Respect says:

u are just a fool for that comment. Police are people to.. hope you dont need 911 one day

    • d.o. says:

you are an IDIOT with a brain power of a rat to make such an asinine stupid statement

  2. buzz says:

looks like people Today,,dont even Respect The Law,,,

    • Dhameer says:

Amen! Even those who would find humor in the allegation of this report. A sad & shameful reminder of the depths to which humanity has digressed.

  3. Kiwana says:

    Wow that’s crazy!!

  4. ga** queen says:

People have respect for d law, but some of the police don’t have respect for u, have u every though of that. U have gud n bad on every job do u relize that.

    • Hmmm says:

Police have respect for the public, get a grip !!!!! police are there to do their job to protect the public. They put their lives on the line to protect. That’s a huge amount of respect….

      • ABM says:

You don’t get out much do you?

        • Hmmm says:

You don’t get it … never mind. How much bird you done ?

          • ABM says:

No I get it, its you who needs to see it from someone elses perspective.

          • Come Correct says:

What about the p** that completely disrespected my mother in front of me? We were told to file a report, did that and what happened? Nothing. Few weeks later someone else complained about him, imagine that. What have they done about him? That’s exactly why they’re so arrogant, because nothing happens to them. That’s why I keep my mouth shut around them, because it hurts them more in the long run. I deal with my own situations, the police have proved more than useless in the past other than cleanup.

            • Sapphire says:

@Come Correct: Exactly how did the person ‘disrespect’ your mother? Rudeness, insults, etc. aren’t against the law. For example, if I said to your mother’s face “You are a nosy old busybody” it would be disrespectful but not illegal so the police can’t do anything about that. Now if I said “You’re a nosy old busybody and if you don’t keep your eyeballs over on your own property and out my business I will kill you in your sleep” then I have done something illegal and the police would be obligated to do something. Simple ‘disrespect’ isn’t illegal…it’s not pleasant and no-one wants their mother insulted but it’s not against the law!

              • Come Correct says:

Never said it was against the law but when the police are trying to developed public relations as the commissioner himself says, treating people like cap doesn’t do well for you. You want people to come forward with information then start treating people like they’re…well, people. I’ll also mention that my mother and I were nothing but polite and cooperative. Does it not tell you something when multiple people complain about an individual? That is now 2 people, that I know of, that won’t talk to police because of the disrespect of one. If I had returned the disrespect he would have found a way to charge me to the fullest extent of the law and he even threatened to do so. Should I go on about the cop that threatened me with an obstruction of justice charge when I exercised my right to remain silent even though those rights had not been read to me? They are bullies and if you don’t know your rights they will attempt to strong arm you to their benefit. Should I go on about the entire wagon of cops plus dog and narco that walked past 5 people to search me and my vehicle in a public park where I was doing nothing more than those other 5? When they left empty handed do you think they searched anyone else? No, but you should have seen the look I got from the narco, and he got one right back. Do unto others as they do unto you.

                • Say What? says:

@Come Correct: You’re saying that you never said the insult against your mother is against the law yet filed a police report? You do know it’s their job to enforce the law and not soothe hurt feelings, right? Do you honestly think they have time to address people who treat other people like crap? There are murderers walking around loose! Give me a break!

                  • Come Correct says:

I never said he insulted her either. Why would the commissioner tell us to file a report? Why would the other individual be told to file a report. I’ll repeat this again. The police are trying developed a good working relationship with the public, the individual I speak of goes against that very concept. Take your break.

    • d.o. says:

with that statement you must be related to Shaun Dumb Swan

  5. terry says:

    Your an a** ShaunDon.
    Go get a job.

    • What Next says:

No they r not a lot of police don’t have respect or don’t have d wright approach . I sure would not help them not from d bully way they carried on with me. Good job i knew my wrights.

      • smh says:

You may know your rights but you need to study some English.

      • Suzie Quattro says:

Yeah. Good job you knew your “wrights”.

      • Time Shall Tell says:

Thanks What Next, I really needed a laugh for the day…..

      • jt says:

the fact that you seem to run into them alot somewhat diminishes your point of view on the matter

  6. itoldyouso says:

what’s crazy is we seem to have no standard to go by when hiring officers of the law. it looks like anybody can join the force no matter how frail they are. and to make it even worse many officers don’t even have the confidence to arrest in a hostel environment.

    • Pebbles says:

Well said! I told you so Your quote says alot.

    • Just One says:

I remember when you had to be a certain height, have perfect vision, and physically fit to be a cop… That was maybe too restrictive but I think they were onto something…

      • jonny says:

well obviously in this day and age, you cant discriminate against ppl just cause they short. On top of that prior to the economy going bad, you didn’t have a multitude of giant physically fit officers with perfect vision running to join the police. Use some common sense

    • S.D. says:

@itoldyouso. There are very high standards to join the police service and they undergo vigorous officer safety training. What you need to bear in mind is that police officers are assaulted the world over, even the ones that carry guns! There is nothing to suggest this officer was frail and we don’t have all of the details. However, it could have been a case of the person turning violent very abruptly, and the officer not having a chance to grab her baton or spray.

Just as you could be randomly attacked without having a chance to react- does that automatically make you a frail wimp? It’s so easy for people to speculate what they would do in a situation, but in the real world it’s often another story. I remember when taxi drivers were being robbed and one guy bragged that it would never happen to him and that he had a licking stick for anybody that dared try. Well…a few weeks later he was held up by two guys armed with a knife and the beat-down he promised never happened because he was so terrified!!! I’m sure many of the people running their chops from the safety of their computers wouldn’t last a single day in the service.

    • Sapphire says:

@itoldyouso: Do the police get a lot of call-outs to ‘hostels’??? I think you mean hostile, dearie.

  7. commenter says:

ShaunDon your comment is uncalled for, why don’t you go out an do the Police’s job if you think it is so easy

    • Davie Kerr says:

Commenter, I agree with you. Why are people always so quick to condemn the Police, but whenever there’s a problem, who do they call? That’s right; the Police!
And don’t let anyone tell you that being a Police Officer is easy. It’s usually enjoyable, but I can assure you it’s not easy: I should know, as I did it for 34 years!

  8. Chew says:

    @ShaunDOn……LMAO, tru dat

    • d.o. says:

yet another stupid a&* Bunch of little shun D dumb wnna be.

  9. buzz says:

some of you might be right,,i once heard a person say
    its all about the benifits,,

  10. Future says:

Maybe if they take this type of action finding the killers that are out there shooting innocent people they but be able to bring the killers to justice

    • jonny says:

idiot, how many shooters have they put away already…there always will be another shooter to replace the last one, ya such an idiot.

      • ABM says:

And how many of those alleged shooters were not the ones who committed the crime……………….

    • jonny says:

there really are a lot of idiots out there, look I found one..There will always be a shooter to replace the last one regardless of how many the police have brought to justice. You think crime just suddenly stops.

  11. Micro says:

So when are they going to release a name/image of the man they’re looking for?

    • ABM says:

Probably never. Bermuda Police officers are not that smart!

    • frank says:

here is an idea justlike the emo teamed up with cellone and digicel to get the weather info out to the public the same can be done for people wanted by the police and also for missing persons

  12. yout mon says:

WHEN DE MAN START RESPECTIN US….DEN WE RESPECT DEM. STR888888

    • terry says:

      Garbage.

    • jonny says:

the “YOUTH” don’t even respect each other or their own parents, what garbage are you saying.

    • Hmmm says:

Don’t even respect the language. What else don’t you respect.

    • ABM says:

I agree as most of us Bermudians were taught to speak to people and that if that person did not speak back then you was to show them no respect at all. When u think about it, that applies to a good bit of the police force.

      • Hmmm says:

You were never taught to respect the police, respect your teachers. See you in the hole.

        • ABM says:

LOL, I was taught to respect those who respect you, as was most Bermudians. Not my fault if certain officers see it fit to show no respect to the public. Thing is, if you show no respect then do not expect any respect in return. A problem that persists with that set of people.

          • Hmmm says:

And that attitude is a massive part of the problem…. Treat others as you would LIKE to be treated yourself. Doesn’t mean it will be reciprocated.

        • haha says:

get back to work…oh right u lot don’t do nuffin. check u in de hole

      • Karma says:

I was never taught “if that person did not speak back then you was to show them no respect at all.”

I was taught to respect my elders, my relatives, authority figures (teachers, police, ministers etc). End of story.

    • Mangio says:

yout man you are a clown…

    • Next says:

Go back to Jamaica with that nonsense you clown.

    • Karma says:

Respect is earned. The BPS earn that every time they try to help a family come to grips with the loss of one of their members to violence, or answere an emergency call when someone’s sorry a$$ gets into a fender-bender (or worse) after a few pops.

Do tell….what has your contribution to society been?

    • aceboy says:

You don’t even understand what “respect” actually is. You don’t warrent respect for anything other than your actions. You earn respect. Respect has become some sort of analogy for “fear” in Bermuda. What have you done to earn any respect?

  13. Speak Truth says:

To Future – do you REALLY think the Police don’t want to catch the shooters?????????? REALLY ?????? Lets give them some credit. What we do need is for all those family and friends who know people who have guns to speak up. Crime stoppers is anonymous! Praying that the officer is OK – the article says there “may” have been an attack. Hopefully any injuries are minimum. It is true that there are the good and the bad in everything. It must certainly be frustrating for the “good” officers, who I am sure do not like what the “not so good” officers do. Keep your head up Bda. Police Service – do what you have to do – and thank you…..

  14. Mark says:

Hope they stomp his a** when no ones looking

    • ABM says:

I hate police officers that do what you are suggesting. Happened to me once, and guess what, those bas$#@! will never do it again. I made sure of that!!

  15. ok soooo says:

Why haven’t they named the person, how can we call police if we don’t knwo who he is?!

  16. for real says:

it would be nice if every one of you get the facts before you write, i was there

  17. Serious Though says:

the best time to catch him… evening! i am just saying!

  18. The Ombudsman makes a statement and says:

im not condoning what is done but these new young female officers are rude as hell and weigh like 50 pounds and act as if the world is at their feet, and would get in your face and talk down to you,i have seen this happen

  19. WOW says:

Gosh I really hope she is ok.
Watching the video clip he said to call 911 if we see him. That is not possible if we do not know who we are looking for.
I hope they post his picture soon.

  20. question says:

Ok your telling us if we see this man to call the police but who is he…. i live out that way right in that neighbourhood i really dont know my neighbors, so i might see him and dont even know that is the person… so i think a name and pic would be nice. Thanks

    • Mayan says:

Not identifying the guy is stupid. If the police are worrying about members of the public approaching this guy who could be potentially dangerous, all they need to do is warn against that and ask people to call the police if they spot him and do not approach him.

This scumbag’s identity should not be protected. He lost the right to his privacy when he slammed a female officer’s head on the ground.

  21. yash says:

Now this is were his @ss should have gotten tasered!

  22. G Kash says:

    hah…these comments are funny.

  23. Sundee Faulkner says:

My sister is an outstanding officer and I know for all of the families she supports and consoles as family in her additional role as family liaison officer, they would agree. She is physically fit and strong, hard working, dedicated, respectful, diplomatic – firm but fair. She has worked in riot squad, with domestic violence victims and continues to support grieving families. She was one of the fastest ranking females to rank of Sargeant. Thank you to those who have expressed their concerns. To those who have made disrespectful and unfounded comments – please think before you express your views. It could be someone you know or love.

    • Suzie Quattro says:

Well said. I hope she is ok.

    • WOW says:

Speedy recovery to her and hope that no one else is hurt in the capture of this person.

I hope they find him soon. Hope they have a picture up soon so we all can assist in some way if we do see him.

    • Mayan says:

All the best to your sister. People forget that police officers are human beings with loved ones who care about them. It seems like the only ones here who have negative views of the police are those on the wrong side of the law.

  24. S.D. says:

@Sundee Faulkner, I wish your sister a speedy recovery.

Like she said, take a break with the disrespectful comments. I fail to see any humor in this situation, and when I read some of the comments made by my fellow Bermudians it really made me ill. Some people have nothing better to do than trample on others when they are down. No wonder our society is headed straight down the toilet…

    • Sundee Faulkner says:

Thought I had posted my thanks for your kind words but I dont think it went through …so if not, reiterating my thanks.

  25. Bozey says:

One question….what was the officer doing while the other was being attacked??

  26. Winnie Dread says:

Words to any officers out there if you are attending even a fender bender expect/be prepared to be attacked physically. That way you can never be caught flat footed (not saying that’s what happened, I was not a witness to the happenings) just a few words of advise that I received years ago. You have to be ever alert and not drop your guard down, wishing the officer a speedy recovery.

  27. Beyond2 says:

@ All the negative and insensitive comments, please do not be so disrespectful to the BPS, cause one day you may be in need of their assistance. To the injured officer, speedy recovery.

  28. itiswhatitis says:

It always amazes me. Sometimes folk do not think before they speak. A woman got hurt regardless of her job position. Someone has to be held accountable. That fall backwards on her back and head, can result in her having a problem later i.e spine, blackouts, etc. If you have think so bad about police and the ability to hire, or what is required to become a police officer. Better yet if vote and I bet you don’t, your voice can be heard. Just maybe you are one of the ones who have been in trouble so much with law or your family has and you cannot see pass that.

  29. Everett says:

A really bad neighbor – has had confrontations with just about everyone neighbor on that street. He has no respect for anyone, man, woman or child.

Hope he gets what he justly deserves, some time in jail.

  30. itiswhatitis says:

I only hope and pray the officer will be okay.

  31. Hawaii 5 0 says:

tazzer him with 500K volts, constant discharge, drop his a** overboard and taze some more. In my day I was taught a few lessons for life. respect is earned not demanded, respect the police and they will then respect you, and lastly never raise your hand in threat to a woman. mind you that was a half century ago. My hope the lady officer makes a full and speedy recovery and the rat is caught quickly, dont loose the cell key when youbget them.

  32. Davie Kerr says:

There is an old saying “It’s easy to be wise after the event.” We’ve all had several hours to discuss what should and should not have been done, and we can’t agree, but the Police Officer has to make an on-the-spot decision. Sometimes the decision is right, sometimes it’s wrong: there’s another old saying which comes to mind: “When you’re right, no-one remembers: when you’re wrong, no-one forgets!” Believe me, the Police’s job would be much easier if people started helping them with the same enthusiasm with which they presently slag them off!

    • terry says:

We don’t know “what should and should have not been done”.
      We were not there.
You should know that Mr. Kerr.

  33. justMYopinion says:

First of all speedy recovery to the female officer….glad to hear that her injuries are non life threatening….

    I would like to point out a couple of facts though;

FACT: Not ALL officers are like the one involved in the incident. There are some good officers but some are as wicked as the day is long.
FACT: SOME female officers can be VERY disrepectful and feel that they can do and say as they wish because they are in uniform…I have witnessed it myself.
FACT: People are entitled to their opinion whether we agree with them or not. They have the RIGHT to say or feel however they wish.
FACT: Respect is EARNED it is NOT a given
FACT: Judging by some of these comments we have a lot of DISRESPECTFUL people commenting on this particular article….really? Do you have to result to name calling and put downs to get your point across?

    IJS……………………..

  34. Ghost Rider says:

This punk needs to have his name given out to the Public same as they do in other countries.

  35. bermy girl says:

They just apprehended the suspect about 10 minutes ago on ferry road stretch.

  36. Ghost Rider says:

Give me 2 minutes in a room alone with him,he will never hurt another person again.

  37. Bored by ignorance says:

Its a real shame that we can’t get away from such hatred and disrespect for each other. I would like to see headlines changed where we don’t disclose genders, ages or races of victims. Murder is murder; assault is assault! We are all of value. If we can start from somewhere, like not using such headlines or descriptions it would be a healthy start. IF we don’t we will never get away from inequality or hatred. A police officer; a human being was assaulted!!!!! Same as if it was a civilian again a human being!!!!!!! That is the bottom line.

Stop lumping people together by occupation; race etc. We are all individual but one thing we do have in common is we aren’t the ‘most intelligent species” as claimed by some. We are dumb, Dumb to spend so much energy hating on each other; destroying our earth; and working to buy materialistic things rather than survival.

    God help us all!

  38. John says:

Maybe all the police should go on strike for a week and then we we see how many crying grown a** men go running to mummy…… Oh I’m sorry they do that anyway

    • Princess says:

@ John. Bingo. I agree with you and that is what they do. I know a few mommas and grannys though that take a frying pan, broom or whatever to their good for nothing tails and beat them and tell them get from here. I love those kind of mommas and grandmas.

  39. I wish the policewoman a speedy recovery,”Law enforcement officers are never ‘off duty.’ They are dedicated public servants who are sworn to protect public safety at any time and place that the peace is threatened. They need all the help that they can get.
Every society gets the kind of criminal it deserves. What is equally true is that every community gets the kind of law enforcement it insists on.
Society questions the police and their methods, and the police say, Do you want the criminals off the street or not?”

  40. Keep ya head up fam says:

Keep ya head up even if ya gottie put a stick unda ya chin fam. Seen!

    • Ty says:

      • Keep ya head up fam says:

I am the de facto stupid family member and friend representative for all criminals who are unfortunate to not have a stupid @$$ family member or friend say “keep ya head up “. It’s a noble cause. Join me.

  41. What Do You Think says:

Pepper Spray!!! If I was that officer I would tazered him esp if he was that violent. As for intensity of the police intent on getting him in jail, they need to do the same with these guys with their pants around their waist that are caught up in negative things or go after the person or person supplying them the ammunition.
