January 24, 2014

BELCO presented a cheque today [Jan 24] for $10,000 to the Student Assistance Program [SAP] at CedarBridge Academy. The contribution was made in response to SAP’s public request earlier this week for funding to provide meals for students whose families are experiencing financial need.

[L-R] Ascendant Group Controller David Faries, BELCO Chief Operating Officer Denton E. Williams, SAP Coordinator Marilyn Jackson, Ascendant Group Corporate Communications Officer Susan McGrath-Smith, BELCO Vice President-Engineering & System Reliability Roger Todd.

BELCO Donates to Cedarbridge Academy Student Assistance Program

Along with members of the Corporate Contributions Committee, BELCO Chief Operating Officer Denton E. Williams presented the cheque to Marilyn Jackson, CedarBridge Academy Social Worker and SAP Coordinator.

Mr. Williams said that BELCO’s Corporate Contributions Committee voted to make the donation because they recognized the urgency of the request and the proven correlation between good nutrition and students’ ability to perform well in the classroom.

BELCO’s Corporate Contributions Committee meets monthly to review funding proposals from local helping organizations and, as in this case, also meets on an ad hoc basis to consider emergency requests.

Thanks to BELCO that this valuable program is saved.
It appears that the Govt. cannot maintain the ongoing inner works in Bermuda anymore and
will need sponsorship in just about program in Bermuda.
Now all we need to do is stop spending hundreds of thousands of Dollars on overseas BS Consultants
    and the lot.

Why do our students have to pay for lunch period?
I feel all students in Bermuda should be fed lunch at school.
Our system is old and out dated.
We really need to invest in our children ;-)
    BELCO, We Thank You

    • Toodle-oo says:

Did you attend school at a time when your mother/father/yourself had to make your school lunch every day that you took to school ?

I don’t know if you’re already struggling with the cost of living and maybe feeding yourself much less your children but do you look forward to paying even more taxes to cover something that the parents of these children should be doing themselves ?

Isn’t this getting fed at school an American model anyway ?

      • Jus' Askin' says:

Not just America but the developed world ;-)
        What happen to “….it takes a village…”?
