Premier Cannonier: I Flatly Refute The Allegation

May 8, 2014

“I have no comment on a story that uses anonymous sources to rehash the so-called ‘Jetgate’ affair, which has been the focus of Opposition attacks against the Government for more than a year, other than to say that I flatly refute the allegation that I requested any monies from U.S. developer, Mr. Nathan Landow,” Premier Craig Cannonier said today [May 8].

The statement follows after reporter Ayo Johnson launched his political journal, with his first report surrounding the Premier’s private jet trip and handling of casino gaming.

Mr Johnson’s story, which you have to pay $3 to read, alleges that an anonymous source said that the Premier asked for “facilitation money” from Mr. Landow.

Premier Cannonier said, “My OBA colleagues and I have been working all-out to get jobs for Bermudians and rebuild the economy. That is our mission and our number one priority. People understand that we have to clean up the mess that this government inherited.

“In order to stimulate inward investment to the Island, I meet with many people, both at home and overseas, to make this happen. This hard work for Bermuda will continue.

“I will not be distracted by accusations and innuendos from unnamed sources whose objective is to undermine the OBA efforts for Bermuda. I know that there are those who would not want this country to succeed under an OBA administration. But we must succeed – for Bermuda’s sake.

“This side show is a distraction. There are many interested investors who are watching us. We want potential investors to know that we will treat them with the highest levels of integrity and that we welcome their guidance on what it would take for them to invest in Bermuda.

“The reporter of the article “Selling Bermuda” has confirmed in his own story that nothing has been sold.

“Although U.S. developer Mr. Nathan Landow did express an interest in developing the St. George’s hotel property, his company did not submit a proposal in time.

“This government remains focused on moving the country forward. Data shows that we’re doing just that, with upcoming construction projects such as Pink Beach Club and the growing numbers of business incorporations.

“These and other developments bode well for Bermudians who need the jobs that these new opportunities create. That is — and will continue to be — my focus,” added Premier Cannonier.

  1. Kangoocar says:

Thank you Premier Cannonier for defending yourself, contrary to what the some of the plp supporters said under the Jahmal article, no reporter who is creditable would print anything as damaging as he did without naming the sources from where they got their information!!!! All one has to do is go back to the Jahmal article right now and they will see betty/nancy weighting posts and then praising each other for their remarks??? This is nothing more than a plp propaganda machine running at full steam to bring down the country at all costs!!! Once again the plp putting themselves first and the country LAST!!! Shame on them!!!!

    • BETTTY TRUMP says:

Kangoocar, No surprise coming from you or your leader.

Your a “Diehardblindfaithfulness” follower of the OBAubp and are not willing to hold the government ACCOUNTABLE and TRANSPARENT regardless if RIGHT or WRONG.

The sad thing is your Premier continues to mislead the people of Bermuda. Based upon the investigative reporting of Mr. Johnson it is clear that the Premier has acted out of line and is not telling the full truth. If he was telling the entire truth, Why does he continue to refuse to answer key QUESTIONS? Why does he overlook key things that others have put forward in regards to him. This matter can simply be closed if the PREMIER would only stand up and ANSWER THE QUESTIONS. Is this the kind of Premier Bermuda needs now. One whom is not willing to be honest and walk on solid ground?

When an individual REFUSES or RUNS from the truth it is a clear sign they are hiding something, or frighten for their life. It is becoming more clearer that he is frighten for his life, and so he continues to tell a lie. “Tell a lie long enough, some may just begin to believe it, is the political strategy of the OBAubp at work again.” I hope folks do not fall for the lie.

The OBAubp is losing the faith of the public, as they continue to fall down on the very things they held up so high pre-election which are “TRANSPARENCY AND TRUTH.” They are far from achieving any of those key elements which they promised the people they would hold up with honour.

This smacks in the face of falsehood and lies.

          • Spelling and Grammar says:

@Hurricane. Good grammar and spelling should be a requirement for somebody that is trying to write something intelligent.

            • BETTTY TRUMP says:

Thanks GOD your only able ot point out spelling and grammar and not able to attack the real message. It suggest the message is on point…oooh do nto forget to correct this comment while your at it ! I given you a big task, now get it done…

Sounds like more deflection tactics coming from the OBAubp fan club, as usual.

              • "Truth and Lies" says:

Sounds like your Premier does not know the difference between the “TRUTH and a LIE”
… I think that is more significant than anything…. hey but DEFLECTION is always the actions taken by the OBAubp fans and MPs to avoid dealing or addressing the real issues…REALLY …now get busy working with dealing with your Premier on real problem here…. did you get the message, that is the real key…this is not English 101..if so get busy correcting all the fans of the OBAubps poor grammar and spelling as well…lets not be so foolish and silly….. Address the real issue here…

                  Need this discussion really proceed?

Bermuda–WAKE UP–we have to fix this country’s issues–economy first–if everyone would put as much effort into constructive solutions rather than the constant criticism that would go a long way.

Stop bickering please and be constructive

            • Ian says:

If you’re having a hard time keeping up because of a few trivial grammatical “errors” perhaps its your intelligence thats in question…

            • Just wondering says:

If you want to get technical about spelling and grammar, your message should read…somebody who – not that. Who refers to people.

            • Tough Love says:

Well Kangoocar talks about reporters not naming sources. Apparently he doesn’t read newspapers outside of Bermuda. Yet you haven’t questioned his intelligence for not knowing the practice of investigative reporting. The name Deep Throat comes to mind. His identity was revealed 30 years after the fact. Yet no one tore down the story because the source wasn’t named, but rather an investigation was held to see if the accusations/allegations were true.

Why don’t we have an independent official research this and we’ll have more to go on than the Premier’s word alone.

            • James says:

Nonsense….our only concern should be arriving at the truth.

@Truth and Lies, its sounds like you don’t know the difference between truth and accusation. You don’t know the difference between an “anonymous” source and a real person.

Since you accuse the OBA of deflecting actions and since you are such a supporter of the PLP, you should have no problem answering this question.

How does one loose $800 million. Does that mean the former government that “lost this money” was a) guilty of theft or b) incompetent.

Something tells me that those of you that are PLP know it alls, and champions of truth, won’t answer. You never do!

        • Slow down BIE says:

“This smacks in the face of falsehoods and lies.” I couldn’t agree more with this statement. It seems our premier is continuing to be accused of taking bribes and conduct unbecoming to enable an individual to build a casino at the club med site. One small fact gets in the way of this entire discourse, apparently Nathon Landow did not submit a response to the RFP in time to be considered.

        • ya right says:

How we gave away Coco Reef?
How they gave away Whites Island?
Why they took Bermuda Cement Company from one person and handed it over to friends and family?
How the TCD building Contract was awarded?
How a new company with zero construction experience and history named Proactive was awarded the Berkeley contract and why they got $40 million extra over contract – followed by part two…who where the real owners and what happened to this one hit wonder company?
Why the PLP forced the Grand Atlantic Homes and why their supporters didn’t by ANY!

            To many articles to come

            Regards,

            Aye Yo!

      • Kangoocar says:

Betty/Nancy, one thing I have to give you is, you have no shortage of nerve!!! If you and your plp colleagues have one once of integrity left in you, please try to find it!!! You all were caught red handed under the Jahmal article answering each other with praise and agreement to each other all under the disguise of looking like you have many supporters?? Sad to say the least!!! You and your plp can’t even figure out who is using who’s compute at Alaska hall , how in the heck do you expect anyone that can think for themselves to believe you and your plp’s nonsense??? Along with that expect those same people to think you are capable of running this island which simply means controlling all of our destinies?? Sorry, but over my dead body are you guys going to control my future!!! Also, don’t think I am fooled by the rapid fire ” dislikes” for us and the ” likes ” for yours and the few other plp paid bloggers posts!!! More nonsense from your side!!! Stop trying to bring this island down at all costs, you are only proving what I always say, and that is, the plp puts themselves first at all costs!!!

        • "Truth and Lies" says:

Kangoocar, great attempt to deflect and Spin the conversation from dealing with the FACTS and TRUTH in regards to Premier Craig.

Kangoocar please speak to the games and lies going on in the OBAubp HALL, do not attempt to spin the situation around.

Stop attempting to distract folks from looking at the lies coming out of the HEADQUARTERS Of the OBAubp MPs and Premier JETGATE4.

Stop with your defending even the indefensible actions of your Leader. Stick to the topic, or is that too difficult for you to do…as your fear of the truth is killing you and OBAubp. It is better to tell the lie, as the truth will make you fall down hard on your swords. The only person bringing the Island down is a leader whom continues to be dishonest, transparent, and reckless and failing the people of Bermuda.

How can you speak with a straight face, and stand beside a Premier whom is dishonest at best?

How can you continue to defend a party whom is not being TRANSPARENT or HONEST, yet that was what they promised the people of Bermuda? But after 40 or more years you never voted any other way, so I am not surprised at all. You stay together to safeguard the status quo.

How can you continue to stand by a party whom promised Bermuda they will indeed do Politics differently? Yet fail beyond measure to show us this.

I think it is you who is failing to stand up and be accountable and honest. NO where in the world would your Leader walk out of this with out world-wide media attention. That tells you of the bias and old establishment in Bermuda is still at work. You need to look at the man in the Mirror and be honest for a change, or is this something that you and the Premier are incapable of doing? Please get REAL ..and stop with your old diehard political spin.

          • Kangoocar says:

Very strange??? Maybe Someone can explain how the character( pic ) that is associated with this betty now going under the name ” truth and lies ” I have seen that same pic with bettty trump??? Anyway, again I say, your plp ( Alaska hall ) propaganda machine is full of BS, and you have the nerve to ask the questions of me???? But I will acknowledge the fact that you say after 40 yrs, I have only voted one way, maybe so but, can you tell me how many times you voted for the the UBP??? Now let’s see who is honest??? I admitted it, what say you??? Betty/nancy/ Alaska hall. I am not afraid to confront any opponent of mine but you sure make it difficult when I am arguing with at least 10 different morons going under different names by the hour??? You really can’t think anyone with a brain would want you to run this island do you??? Also, I am willing to answer any question you have but, you first need to come up with an explanation for the $800 million that went missing under your time of incompetence!!!!

Ayo would have some credibility if he had spent a proportional amount of time and energy investigating his very close friend, mentor and probable source Dr. Ewart Brown. It is so obvious from the words he has used that his article is a completely biased, emotional, personal attack on the current Premier. This unsubstantiated attack is clearly being directed by Dr. Brown in order to work towards restoring Ayo and his beloved PLP to power so that they can return their black elite clique to power and continue to keep the gravy train rolling for themselves and their friends and family while continuing to brain wash the resentful poor uneducated Bermudian masses through racial and class incitements..

      • Impressive says:

What in the world?? Do you really believe what you just typed above.. Mercy.. “resentful poor uneducated Bermudian masses.

      • Blaque Beauty says:

He actually cant go after Johnson for slander…. libel maybe but the definition of slander is oral defamation.

    • Mayan says:

Kangoocar: Not naming a source doesn’t take away from the validity of the claims. I’m not saying it’s true or isn’t true, but it irritates me when people say that because a source isn’t named, that means the allegations must not be true-what hogwash!

Many of us see or hear things that we know are wrong but know that if you speak up, there may be repercussions. Maybe some would say it’s cowardly not to want to be named, but Bermuda is a small place and you don’t know what you’ll face for speaking out-especially if it means a loss of your job that puts bread on the table for your family.

We all talk about crime and encourage people to call Crimestoppers if they know something as you can stay anonymous. So if I witness something and have valuable information for the police, the fact that I use Crimestoppers instead of walking into Hamilton Police Station means that I really didn’t witness what I did? Of course not! It just means that I want to remain anonymous, just like you want to remain anonymous by using a pseudonym-I’m sure your parents didn’t christen you ‘Kangoocar’. So by using your own argument, we should completely disregard your opinion because you are not using your real name!

    • Goose says:

      Kangoocar-

You do realise that Landow was the finance behind Bazarian, right?

Apparently the Premier didn’t. Anything that was discussed would have likely filtered back to whomever was involved with the Club Med project during the PLP tenure as Government.

Ayo has turned up evidence that there was impropriety on the part of our Premier. If the OBA is able to discredit it, fair enough. If not I expect the party to demand the resignation of the Premier. I’m not putting any faith in the protests of the accused man.

Here’s looking at you Hollis. Transparency and accountability were the big election promises put forth by the OBA. Don’t let a couple of cabinet ministers and a Premier prove the party liars.

      • Cinqo De Juno says:

Ayo spewed up hearsay. Not evidence! Big difference! And lots of you fools PAID $3 to read this. Fools and their money will soon be parted.

  2. O'Brien says:

The PLP want so badly for ‘jetgate’ to be the scandal that brings down the OBA. Unfortunately for them, there just isn’t any substance to it.

We know that the Premier and two Ministers went to meet with a developer interested in Bermuda. Yes they took a jet paid for by their host and no they didn’t bring a civil servant. That was foolish and they should have known better. But if their motive was to try and secure some investment for Bermuda, then I think they can be forgiven. Besides, it’s not like no jet ever departed the LF Wade with a sitting PLP minister on board.

The all-important questions are these: Did they enrich themselves? Did they exchange promises for money or favours? There is absolutely no evidence they did either. Until someone can prove the contrary, there is just no scandal here – regardless of how hard the PLP tries to convince us there is.

    • BETTTY TRUMP says:

Show the bank receipt of the money given to the OBAubp towards the election campaign. All the Premier needs to do it give the people Solid evident that he is not lying. So far he has been unable to do either or nothing. Thus he is got egg all over his face, no matter how he attempts to spin it. Just provide the truth so the case can be closed.

Why hide out behind a shield or lies? Why not answer key questions? Why dismiss key facts as presented by Mr. Johnson? This suggest he has something to hide. He is bringing himself down all on his own, the PLP needs to do nothing at all or say anything. The OBAubp have just fallen on their sword, and lost the faith of many in Bermuda, as a result will end up being a one time government. Sad they can not see this fact. Blindness is killing them.

      • Edmund Spenser says:

He can’t show the receipt because there is no receipt. Ayo Johnson’s article clearly states after all the inferences and innuendo that there is no proof that any transfer ever took place. The article just repeats the same PLP talking points and then includes a short paragraph that’s says no prof of a transfer could be found.

        • Ian says:

Funny thing is if the tables were turned w PLP representatives at the end of accusations you people would be smelling rats all day long. Even as adults you can’t seem to see how “selective” your suspicions are… As ridiculous as children in a school yard…

      • Mike Hind says:

So… you’re asking someone to prove a negative? Well done.

The burden of proof is on the person making the accusation.

I know truth and reality and things that actually exist aren’t important to you, Bettty, but this is getting ridiculous.

You demand that the Premier show proof, then say “why dismiss key facts as presented by Mr. Johnson?” What key facts?

What is particularly ridiculous and hypocritical is your supposition that someone refusing to answer questions “suggest[s] he has something to hide”! It’d be hilarious if it wasn’t so toxic and bad for our country.

We need better than this. We deserve better than this.

        PLEASE do better.

        • Mayan says:

Mike Hind, your comments make no sense. Ordinarily, one could say that one doesn’t need to defend themselves against accusations or prove that allegations are untrue. Yes, in a court of law the burden of proof lays with the accuser (the prosecution) but we are talking about our GOVERNMENT here-you know, those folks who said they’d do better for our country? Yet two years in there have been all kinds of disgraces and scandals and things swept under the carpet (e.g. the Nandi Davis incident)…these people promised to be honest, fair and transparent but are doing a p*ss poor job of it so far.

The OBA needs to do better. They can start by stopping the placing of blame when things go wrong on the PLP yet wanting to take the credit when things go right-maybe due to a residual effect of the PLP, but they wouldn’t admit it!

Look, I can assure you all with all the discussions with the man on the street, that if the OBA doesn’t do better, they WILL be a one-term government. Say what you will-agree with it if you want to or not but that is the reality. I know many, many a PLP voter who gave the OBA a chance (just to see what they could do) and are now saying they regret it. When people are suffering and they think that their government doesn’t care and is only out for itself, they have a massive problem with that and that is what a lot of people feel about the OBA.

I understand that the OBA needs to drum up the international business sector, but many Bermudians feel ‘what about us?’ When you have no food on the table, you don’t look at the long term as in ‘we’re working on this area so that in five years’ time Bermuda will benefit.’ You look at the here and now. Those who don’t have any financial problems, who have jobs and a good life can’t comprehend the feelings of those who are suffering in our country right now. The OBA gives the impression that those people can wait. Promising they will have jobs in a year or five years or ten years does nothing for them NOW when they have rent to pay and creditors are on their backs. Say what you will, the PLP DID have better social programs than the OBA does and at least gave the impression that they cared about the little man-the OBA gives the impression that they only care about men in suits with briefcases full of money. For their own good, this image needs to change or they won’t get a second chance-trust me.

          • Mike Hind says:

            Sigh…

This is nothing but spin and talking points.

            God, I’m sick of this.

            • BermyGal says:

What, no rebuttal this time Mike?

              You must be getting soft.

Or maybe you know that Mayan has some very valid points (not that you will ever admit it).

              • Mike Hind says:

Or, it could be that he makes no point whatsoever and is just regurgitating talking points and spin, all of which has been rebutted again and again.

Why waste time re-rebutting if you guys are just going to ignore the points?

There is nothing new in this post from yet ANOTHER anonymous poster. All of this has been debunked over and over.

What points does he make that are valid? Hm?
What NEW points does he bring up?
What “valid points” does he have that aren’t just, as I described, spin and talking points?

          • Terry says:

And if the PLP had stayed in power we would be far worse off.
Drop the straw and walk away from your koolaide.
            Lord………………………

          • Bermuda Man says:

Governments with money can have all the financial assistance programs they want, but the PLP used and abused the money and now their just isnt any left. Do you not realise the OBA were almost unable to pay their workers and had to burrow more money. The PLP made it almost impossible for the OBA to continue to give give give when the coffers are now empty.

          • JustAskin2 says:

Turning from the tried and true excuse (blame the PLP) for the sake of the gullible and actually coming up with more believable explanations takes a bit of clever creativity and energy. It appears that by rehashing the same old same old, there is a definite lack in either creative thinking or creative energy.

          • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

a question for you and all the others that are trying to convinced themselves that the OBA will only be a 1 term stint…did you vote for the OBA over the PLP in the last election or..? because if you did vote for them and now want to change your vote in the next election, then you might have a chance to turn the tide, but if you did not vote OBA…

      • Islander says:

did you have a close look at the brown/burgess cheques, did you check the BIU’s books for the missing 800,000. And the only thing that is being sold is you paying $3 to read Ayo’s article. PAY PAY PAY – perhaps the PLP’s bloggers account is running low.

      • Bermuda Man says:

If the OBA has one term in Government that will be the beginning to the End of Bermuda!

Bermudians have to be smarter then that !! The PLP will drive us down a road that will never end. They already done it with their huge Debt..

        • JustAskin2 says:

And where I wonder is the OBA driving us? Things are not getting any better it seems…

      • LOL (Original TM*) says:

I sure would like to see the PLP election donations for the laast 4 elections……………

LOL would be truely telling eh Betty

    • Looking for Leadership says:

Um – answer why the other guy was on the trip?

      • Anbu says:

Who gives a rats behind if he was. It did not cost us a frikkin dime. Plp are so upset they lost the last election. Its hilarious. Get over it people. U jacked our country up. Admit it already. Help out or shut up already.

      • Serengeti says:

Because there was a seat empty and he was going the same way.

    • Evie says:

The only reason we know this is because it was revealed stop talking like they were forthcoming it was like pulling teeth you people r so bias it funny n sad remind me again what century are we living in and who is really drinking the koolaid SMDH

  3. Looking for Leadership says:

OK Craig…. So now that you say you didn’t ask for any money, how exactly did he give money to OBA?

And while we are at that, you say you didn’t ask for any monies, please tell us then When did you first meet him? Before the election or when he flew his jet down to pick you up?

It would be a lot easier to clear up the inaccuracies – than just issue blanket denials.

    • Sandy Bottom says:

If you know something, give us the proof of what you know. If not, shut the f up.

We all know this is designed to distract attention from the fact that the PLP spokesman, Jamahl, is a foul mouthed violent thug. That doesn’t make the PLP look very good, does it.

      • Mayan says:

Jamahl a thug? Do you even know him? He may have a few radical views but the guy is hardly a thug-he couldn’t bust a grape in a fruit fight. He’s just all mouth but harmless otherwise.

  4. lucky 7 says:

Well said Mr. Premier, ignore the childishness from idiots who are too stupid to understand what’s going on around them. Keep at it!

    • BETTTY TRUMP says:

YES keep ignoring he people of Bermuda, Keep thinking you do not have to response to the people of Bermuda. This is a serious issue, not a minor one that can be overlooked.

YEAH….Keep ignoring the people, ….That is great, it will sure ensure that OBAubp will be a “ONE TIME GOVERNMENT”, Any government whom ignores or believes they do not have to work for the benefit of the people, or answer key questions, will have a short life. The worst move of any sitting government. But keep it up..I love it since you and others think is a great move of the government and Premier….!!

      • lucky 7 says:

Oh ok BETTY TRUMP, stupidity isn’t a virus, but sure is spreading like one. Someone should’ve told you that you were contagious.

        • Ian says:

Funny how OBA/UBP supporters tend to resort to name calling, typically fueled by arrogance and an ingrained sense of superiority.

          • Mike Hind says:

            YOU are saying this? YOU?

            Wow. The hypocrisy is overwhelming!

          • Sandy Bottom says:

It’s Jamahl who is a violent foul mouthed guy.

That’s what all this is supposed to be distracting us from, right? The foul mouthed violent messages from the PLP spokesman?

          • Ninja says:

Shows their weakness.. best be careful of the name calling as they may run into a concrete wall one day.

          • LOL (Original TM*) says:

No PLP person supporter or leaner has nay right to talk about name calling thats all they do day in day out all year every year to STFU and come correct of once and show you acctually want better for the country and not just you and yours.

LOL wont happen though pride and all that..

      • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

Bettty…you will never be able to enjoy the OBA lifestyle that you so wantingly reveal every time you open your mouth…why are you trying to go east in a westward lane…stay in your lane and see you later,go do your thang…stop getting in the way of the people moving forward…you’ll only be hurt by getting in the way.

    • JustAskin2 says:

Nice. By idiots, you are implying the majority of Bermudians?

      • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

if u do not agree, then i guess you are one of the idiots…simple calculations …jus’ sayin’

        • LOL (Original TM*) says:

see how these guys try to make it not about what they said and act like your insulting all of Bermuda but the comment was solely focused on the dumb sh1t they said which propted the next post. Is this a defense mech cause your IQ was found out..

          LOL

  5. Redo says:

Thank you Premier. You have replied, we have heard you, now let’s all move on and get back to fixing Bermuda. END OF STORY. DONE.

    • Evie says:

Okay Craig keep ignoring until you can’t then and only then will you confess even then your supporters will still say its okay tell me who is really drinking the koolaid SMDH

    • BETTTY TRUMP says:

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” Political strategy of the OBAubp…at work..

      • James Rego says:

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.”

Exactly, Betty Trump, Truth and Lies, that’s how most levelheaded people here view your posts.

      • Terry says:

        Good one Ewart.
        Still pulling the strings.
        Betty.

Uikrane I can see from St. Davids Lighthouse.

        RIP Bermuda.

  6. Bermuda boy says:

Thank you Mr Premier. You and the rest of the OBA are doing a great job.

  7. Tired of it all says:

It is up to the accuser to provide the evidence, so Mr. Johnson and Mr. Jones should have no problem providing the relevant authorities the damning evidence to bring down the Premier.

Funny how all this hot air is being puffed just a few months after the new anti-corruption law was passed. The same legislation which allows greater investigatory powers into the awarding of past, present and future government contracts then ever before. Even funnier that just a few weeks back in the last sitting of the House the Opposition queried about a forensic accountant that has been appointed to review, well let’s just say, Government contracts. I find it most interesting about their line of questioning. Still do. Well, either way, I thought if everyone else can publicly state and endorse conspiracy theories then I can join the party as well.

But one thing I do know is that by the OBA Government enacting that much needed and long awaited for anti-corruption legislation that these accusations and others can be thoroughly investigated and indictments procured like never has been in yesteryear. And given everyone’s outrage at this point in time I am sure you will have no problem with all allegedly corrupt politicians finally face justice. Right?

    • Truth shall not set you free says:

When the PLP first probed into jetgate they were sitting on intell and gave the premier rope to hang himself. You think Ayo is any different? It’s called cat and mouse. There will be more to come. I’m sure he did not start a website to just reveal that initial story and then report and then regurgitate news stories.

  8. Coffee says:

Time is like medicine . Like everyone else I’ll wait for it to cure this DIS EASE !!

    • jt says:

      Agreed…but you’ve misidentified the patients.

      • Coffee says:

And now pray tell us which patients I speak of ? The DIS EASE Will cause those thus affected many sleepness nights !

Do you understand that Mr.L..d..w will get his casino when he tells the truth . He has nothing to lose , and he might even save himself a Bob or two .

        • jt says:

Perhaps you should tell us then…for the avoidance of doubt.

  10. Tricks are for kids says:

I just wish EVERYBODY would grow up and END the tit for tat….There are so many more pressing issues at hand…..Too much negativity….. that’s why there is little to no progression…..WE must LEARN to choose our battles….EVERYTHING is NOT worthy of a response….sometimes we just have to let things go…….

  11. Alvin Williams says:

I AM NOT A CROOK AND THE PEOPLE OF BERMUDA SHOULD KNOW THAT THEIR PREMIER IS NOT A CROOK?

    • jt says:

I don’t think anyone ever accused you of being a crook Alvin…you may have stolen some ideas from extremist socialists…but that doesn’t make you a thief.
As for the Premier..innocent until accusers prove otherwise..same as Dr. Brown….right?

    • Mike Hind says:

Are you accusing the Premier of being a crook? Care to back that up with evidence? Or is this just yet another ridiculous, unbalanced and false bit of smear from you, as usual?

    • Sandy Bottom says:

      Are you quoting DREB?

  12. Looking in says:

How can this reporter be entertained.Making a bunch of gossip that the gullible PLP supporters took, hook line and sinker.
Go report on the $800 million that is unaccounted for,to regain some semblance of integrity.

    • Ian says:

Its ironic how there is just as much evidence supporting the 8oo million claims as there are the jet gate ones. but the 8oo mill is a fact for you isn’t it?

      • jt says:

Let’s hope they are both thoroughly investigated and consequences brought to bear if required.

    • Jonah says:

Indeed report on it, however investigate and report the heck out of this also…there’s gold in dem hills…

  13. Rockfish#2 says:

If this destructive, suicidal game continues much longer, there will not be any marbles left for anyone to fight over.

  14. Archibald Handbury says:

Will all the OBA supporters please confirm for me when the rules changed. Are you people seriously saying that anonymous sources are not NOW credible?! You and your Party rode anonymous, shadowy whispers all the way to the Cabinet Office in 2012. Permit me to refresh the collective memories of you and the rest of the country:

    1. Son of the Soil – anonymous source serialized in the Mid-Ocean news for weeks.
    2. Cedar beams – anonymous allegations that cedar from St. George’s post office ended up in Dr. Brown’s house.
    3. Fraudulent cheques – fake cheques “found in the file” (yeah right) and without anymore the Auditor General investigates.
    4. “Don Coleman” or anyone else black and American who attended Howard with Dr. Brown so that’s how they got contracts. – Anonymous and untrue but still spoken.

The list is endless but you had no problem then and in fact have repeated this stuff so often you think its all true. Well guess what, the rules have NOT changed. Anonymous sources still have some weight and you and your Premier better get with the programme and defend yourselves with more than blanket denials.

And remember the Whistleblower legislation you demanded in opposition (and is probably on your list right after you figure our the status piece for PRCs) that is totally based on the ability of ANONYMOUS people to make complaints. Or is that now going to change too!?

    • mixitup says:

      *crickets*

    • Starting Point says:

can you point to which of the instances you mentioned resulted in the premier losing his job? or do you agree that these sort of accusations mentioned in your post and the ones being mentioned in regards to ‘jet gate’ are nearly talking points for opposition parties to make the government look bad.

calling for the premiers resignation over jet gate is a foolish as calling for browns resignation over cedar beams or any other accusation without actual proof.

      • Looking for Leadership says:

There is a difference between having “beams” in your house which can’t be possible OR asking a developer for a “facilitation fee”

    • Sandy Bottom says:

There is no source or evidence at all for this allegation. It’s just completely fabricated out of thin air.

It’s designed to distract the public from the actions of the PLP spokesman, who is a violent foul mouthed guy.

How much did the PLP pay Jamahl?

    • 1minute says:

2 – Paraphasing Dr Brown, they are not in my house so you don’t need to look there… He should of said, Mr Policeman, please come in and look for yourself and tell the public that they are not there…
3 – Planted by the PLP to make it look like someone was out to get them… Similar to the mystery bullet the Dr Brown received…

      • LOL (Original TM*) says:

been thinking the same since it happened no word on bullet the one thing that should have been investigated by every resource at the governments dissposal. I mean that is high treason and the investigation has uncovered what? seariously the PLP tried everything they could to stay in power and the supporters think that the desire to stay in power had anything to do with the voter? please….

        LOL

  15. PLPSUPPORTER says:

As a devout plp supporter id like to say that I am appalled at the tactics my party arr using. I have been pleased with the OBA initiative so far. many things I wished plp had done.. OBA has done and/or are trying to do. Therefore I say that I DO believe the Premier.. and to hush the critics he should take a televised polygraph test. as well as the corrupt plp officials that were the cause of out countries downfall in the past 14 years.

  16. Starting Point says:

If this is a case of ethics then anonymous sources are fine but you can not accuse an individual of an actual crime without evidence. Some posters on here are asking the premier to prove he is not lying….so the PLP stance is guilty unless proven innocent?

I thought they were for restorative justice and against profiling, I guess this is not the case and I fear for the young black males in the justice system who now have the official opposition saying they need to prove their innocence.

If the premier has done something inappropriate, especially that would result in him losing leadership then put the facts on the table, Mr. Johnson is not an impartial reporter in this situation, his writing is clearly slanted to one side, now if his information is fact then that is fine but just because he says so, does not mean it is so.

    • Charge for rumours says:

PLP supporters screamed bias when the media cited anonymous people about DREB, now suddenly anonymous people are credible and this story saying an anonymous person said something is the holy grail of truth.

Something tells me if Johnson starts citing anonymous sources to say the PLP is corrupt, the Betty Trump’s (and her many aliases) suddenly won’t find anonymous sources so credible.

  17. mixitup says:

*clearing throat* I’ve searched every page in the RG and on-line RG and cannot find anything on this story?! I wonder why?

    • Sandy Bottom says:

You can look at any news source and find certain subjects that are mysteriously never covered.
But I did see this one in the RG. It did cover the foul mouthed tweets inciting violence from the PLP spokesman. And Jamahl made this up as a distraction from his foul mouthed words inciting violence.

  18. Robert says:

This man is a complete joke, get cracking Craig….oops, Mr. Premier !!!!…. tongue in cheek !!!!

  19. Come clean Mr Premier

  20. Gotham says:

The basic problem here is that the PLP wannabe government are worried sick the the real Government will actually get something done not in fourteen years but within four – and hence this concerted economic sabotage on their part.

    • Gotham says:

By the way, if Ayo Johnson or anybody else for a moment thinks the allegations are true, they should report it as a US crime to the US Consulate here, citing US Foreign Corrupt Act 1976.

  21. Marc Brown says:

    Betty Trump/ L Bean/ and All,

The real issues here are Mr Simmons stating that foreigners should be shot in the head and support for burning up our island, ( not allegations, actual quotes ).
Just look at the connection between Mr Simmons- Sherry J ( wife and host of 102.7 ), good friend Ayo Johnson, Talk show 102.7, …, ( i believe is owned by MP Mr Blakeney ). It is not difficult to UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIPS/ COLLABORATION BETWEEN ALL THE PARTIES INVOLVED that this think media story explains all these allegations that cannot be substantiated.
I understand that Mr Johnson has been unable to maintain employment at most of our media/ newspaper outlets in Bermuda over the years ( not sure why this has occurred though ), so its understandable that in launching a new business/website it would be essential to charge potential customers $ 3 to read your articles, (similar to that of a tabloid model, even though the norm for such a venture would be attract traffic to your website and sell advertising space).
I guess over the past years the PLP has clearly stated that the RG is a biased ubp/oba media outlet, just like its fair to say the 102.7 talkshow ….are a bit PLP biased ? As many PLP supporters do not read the royal gazette / like most oba supporters do not listen to 102.7, so its probably fair to say the PLP have their own media outlet now to control and direct what message they want to get to their support base. (Smart, well done. )
So back to this thread for what it is, as mentioned by someone else in here the PLP mps were setting up the Premier with questions in the house about jetgate, so its obvious that the information the PLP got must have come from Mr Johnson ? which shows the connection with all the parties mentioned ?

  22. tricks are for kids says:

Looking at these posts you can see whose staunch OBA and whose staunch PLP……WOW……..SMDH…….how much longer (on either side of the political fence) are you all going to defend BS????? BOTH sides have done the people of Bermuda WRONG one way or the other. ..if BOTH parties have the best interest of the people in mind and the common goal is to get things back on track than you all need to work together. ….howevet, upon looking at all the comments from the “peanut gallery regulars” this doesn’t seem to be the goal……
    #kindergartenantics………#IJS….

    • Time Shall Tell says:

I 100% agree with you on that, I still believe that Bermuda would be best served if we dropped party politics. Too much of standing by party lines rather then what’s best for the country (that’s directed at both sides).

  23. nuffin but the truth says:

Ayo Johnson could not pay me enough to read his allegations and he wants to try to charge people $3 to read these allegations!

    • LOL (Original TM*) says:

PLP need money why you think they all book writers now?

      LOL

  24. Bermuda Boy says:

Are those PLP/BIU hands are starting to itch again? You will never have another chance to ruin this Island!!!!

    • swing voter says:

I was gonna leave this one alone, but I agree. In their present state, the party is unelectable…..the old guard has past on for the most part, their work was in vane considering what became of the movement. The remaining few are content to enjoy their MP salaries, and retirement benefits….so saddening.

    • James says:

      Time will tell…Tick Tock

  25. Question says:

I would like to add just a few thoughts to this debate. . .

    1. If Ayo Johnson is a member of the PLP, then his article would and should be considered a PLP document – HOWEVER, that has not been proven, thus indicating that his article is from the PLP IS FALSE.

    2. Regardless of Mr. Johnson’s previous job situations, he has always proven himself to be an excellent journalist who is very thorough in his investigations

    3. My last point – - – the Hon. Premier, in his response above, only speaks to the money request allegation – nothing more. He identifies the article and the attention it has received as a sideshow and belittles the writer and anyone who chooses to believe the information contained within. I believe this is a bad move on the Premier’s part.

Despite what people may think, I want Bermuda to succeed. For me, it is not about the OBA or the PLP – it is about Bermuda. And with the current Premier, not the party, I do not feel that we can be successful – - he has proven to be a distraction and out of his depth for the position. Bermuda in 2014 requires a strong leader – one with conviction, fortitude, and the integrity to do what is right for Bermuda at all times.

Based on the last 18 months, I can no longer say that our current Premier is that person. And that is sad to me – honestly.

    Q

  26. Terry says:

Oh just bring John Barritt back.

  27. Dontworryboutathing says:

Politicians are in this to make money. A $200,000+ salary for all the aggravation a Premier has to put up with, is just not worth it. I believe they all try to get some kind of perks to make it worth while. It just a matter of not getting caught or using the phrase its not illegal just unethical.
Remember when David Bolden and his wife were arrested for financial fraud and they accused Dr. Brown of wanting 10% of their wireless business (which was information given to them by a unnamed Government Minister) and also 60% share of the commission for work on Bermuda’s Public Pension Funds.
How much difference is that from what Ayo Johnson is accusing the current Premier of allegedly doing. All of it is just allegations, he said, she said scenario. If there was a taped conversation that could prove something or something written, then we may have some evidence, but then again that would probably be inadmissible.

  28. Cleancut says:

Whats wrong with this one BN?

  29. James says:

    Bingo

  30. Looking in says:

Premier Cannonier keep helping the country and do not be distracted by wannabees!

  31. Better Dump says:

Hide all your straws before PLP grasp at them.

  32. Luke says:

Wow, here we have Ayo, who was fired from the RG ,and J. Simmons who has had a history of chopping and changing from party to party and jobs to jobs, these guys are trying to their best to disrupt our Island…..for their own benifit !!!!!!!!!!! guys we are on to you…you two need to face reality….
