Video: Fire Service Responds To House Fire

[Updated with video] The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service responded to a house fire at around 3.00pm today [July 1] in the Valley Road, Paget, area after one section of a 2-storey house caught on fire.

As of this writing [4.30pm] the fire has been extinguished, and the BFRS has confirmed that no injuries were reported. Further details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.

Update 10.49pm: Fire Service spokesperson Leonard Davis stated that at approximately 3.20pm the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to the incident with three fire appliances staffed with 9 firefighters.

“Upon our arrival there was visible smoke and flames seen emitting from the ground floor entrance way. Firefighters dressed in breathing apparatus and equipped with a 1½” hose line began to extinguish the fire,” added Lt. Davis.

Sergeant Shannon Caisey added, “The bulk of the fire was isolated to the exterior of the premises. The fire took approximately 10 minutes to extinguish. The ground floor entrance way sustained major structural damage as a result of the fire. A full interior search of the house was carried out, revealing smoke damage on the ground floor with one bedroom sustaining severe heat damage.”

A fire investigator was called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire, and the cause is currently under investigation.
