August 20, 2014

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [August 20], Renee Tucker, 23 pleaded guilty to keeping a male and female pitbull and doing so without having a licence. Senior Magistrate Archie Warner fined her $500 on each count for a total fine of $1,000.

Prosecutor Loxly Rickett told the Senior Magistrate that dog wardens had received complaints and, with police and a search warrant, had gone to Ms. Tucker’s residence. On arrival, they found her boyfriend at home. He telephoned Ms. Tucker and, over the phone, she confirmed that there were dogs at the residence and that they belonged to her.

  1. Family Man says:

    Doesn’t a breeding license cost $1,500?

A fine of $1,000 for keeping a male and female pitbull sounds like just another cost of doing business.

Stop this F—n Madness Pits should not be persecuted it is not the dogs falt if you have a pits like me i have 3 and all licensed the should be restrictions and licenced to responsable owners with special stipulation attached to havig one. more dogs put to sleep i would like to put some of our troubled people to sleep such Bull S–it

    • serengeti says:

      What language is this in?

    • Redo says:

Agree totally but she didnt have them licensed!! That makes them illegal. No, it isn’t the innocent dogs’ faults, it’s the IDIOT OWNER’S FAULT!! License your dogs people – it’s really quite easy to do!

  3. Paget says:

We had a tourist pedestrian attacked by a pitbull in my neighborhood a few weeks ago. The owner appears unstable and has threatened to let her dog attack neighbors as they walk by. It would be good to know if this is the one we know about or yet another unstable person with an unstable and vicious dog.

  4. Terry says:

Irony is “doggystyle” you speak much but hide behind a pen name.

If your that concerned and protective and responsible; who the hell are you.
    Shalom.

Is this even legal? How can a dog catcher get a search warrant based on a complaint? This has to and will stop. This govt has aggressively been enforcing the culling of pit bulls and penalising people who have these dogs and most of the owners are too afraid to even register them in the fear of they might be targeted. Most pit bull owners are law abiding and voting citizens. There has to be a better way forward for all peoples involved.

    • Toodle-oo says:

      *Is this even legal?*
Yes, if she had unregistered labradors there they would have been confiscated. , and they’re not even on the banned list.

*How can a dog catcher get a search warrant based on a complaint?*
Because a complaint was made made and that’s what they’re supposed to do.

*This has to and will stop.*
Is that a threat against what is the ‘law’ ? How do you propose it ‘will stop’ ?

*This govt has aggressively been enforcing the culling of pit bulls and penalising people who have these dogs and most of the owners are too afraid to even register them in the fear of they might be targeted.*
And the last government passed the law so what about them ?
If pit owners are afraid of registering them it’s because they shouldn’t have them in the first place. They’re a banned breed. Get it ? Probably not.
The only pit bulls left on the island (with the exception of the few that were allowed ‘amnesty’ ( a couple of years back) should all be about 12 + years old now .

*Most pit bull owners are law abiding citizens.*
I bet an overwhelming percentage of the population would disagree with that statement .

*There has to be a better way forward for all peoples involved.*
Of course there is . STOP getting them ! They’re all basically from illegal litters anyway. AND they’re banned.

A little clarity of thought there for you without any emotional interference.

      • jr smith says:

No ma’am this is not a threat to “what is the law.” . We are currently working within the law & with the necessary people to help make this change possible, hopefully before any other animal ( which have spirits ) is unnecessarily killed.

  6. sage says:

Did they kill more healthy dogs because their owners broke a law? No respect for life, shameful.

    • Been there done that! says:

Those without respect for life are the ones illegally breeding and illegally obtaining them… as well as no respect for the law. Put the onus where it belongs.

  7. We Are Not Amused! says:

People like her are a menace to our community and to these types of dogs!
I dont feel sorry for her at all,I feel sorry for the unfortunate dogs.

  8. moving forward says:

Break the law…..pay the consequences! Law and order is about accountability.

  9. Been there done that! says:

Anyone with a pit-bull or other banned breed dog that has never been licensed, or is under a certain age, is NOT a law abiding citizen as it is currently illegal to own such a dog. (Older registered dogs, and dogs that were legalized up to a certain point are grandfathered in, so therefore you will still see some). Puppies and young dogs however are illegal, and cannot be made legal. A microchip from the veterinary offices does not make a dog legal. A lot of people think that if they take an illegal dog to the vet, have it looked at, have it chipped, that it is “registered”, it is NOT. Unfortunately the veterinary office is just making money off of people until the law catches up to them and seized their illegal dog.

    • sage says:

Anyone (except maybe Johnny Barnes) who rides and drives on our roads is not a law abiding citizen, EVERYONE speeds, and many continue to talk on cell phones. The point is punish the people , don’t heartlessly kill the dogs, it is totally unnecessary. All they have done is allowed pet stores to import the shorter stockier big headed Staffordshire Terrier at $5,000 a pop. Just another money racket.

  10. Accountability, addherance to law ,and those who are charged with enforcing have to be backed up by prosecution. The enforcment of resposonsability.I’ll make the correlation too….licensing is to ensure proper care of animal, perhaps planned parenthood should be taught in school and licensing of parents to have children,seriously…..the child should not go hungry, without clothing, healthcare, insurance etc as they now do.There are children going to school without food ,there a school teachers right now ,in Bermuda, who from the kindness of their hearts pool thei meager monies and feed hungry children going to school without breakfast or dinner the night before. This is a prevalent problem that needs addressing immediately…if not sooner! Some of these so called mommies, daddies baby mommah, baby daddies etc should not have children!
