MP Lovitta Foggo’s Back To School Message

September 7, 2014

FOGGO, LOVITTA(2)As the island’s students prepared to head back to school, Shadow Minister of Education, Ms. Lovitta Foggo has taken the opportunity to wish all the faculty, staff, and students of our educational institutions, the best for this upcoming 2014-15 school year.

Ms. Foggo said, “To our teachers, you are appreciated! I know, first hand, the challenges that come with teaching students all day, and having to balance that with raising families. We appreciate the sacrifices many of you make, on a daily basis. We recognise that many of you work well into the evenings and weekends.

“We know that the vast majority of you give your best continuously and for that we thank you. We encourage you to continue pushing yourselves and for encouraging students to give 100%. Bermuda’s future rests upon that and a wholesale, collective participation from every segment of society. Education can count on our support!

“To our students, we believe in you! I encourage you to keep your heads focused on your studies and your extra-curricular activities. Your country needs you to educate yourselves at all levels and to eventually become the business and community leaders of tomorrow. We have many success stories emanating from the public school system, and I ask that each of you ensure that you become successful!

“To the parents, we value your involvement! Your children need your support, encouragement, dedication, and love. The education system is just but one piece of the puzzle for student achievement, but our combined efforts can produce Bermuda’s best.

Ms. Foggo continued, “During these difficult, economic times, we understand that some of you may be challenged to dedicate the necessary and sufficient time to assist your children with their educational commitments, so as such, parents, you can designate a responsible family member to act in your capacity, when needed.

“Such measures help in the promotion of positive student outcomes. Remember, there are various vehicles available within our school system for your utilization which can assist you in helping your children meet their scholastic demands. It takes a village to raise a child, and we must be ever mindful of this when ensuring success for our youth.

“I am pleased to have been appointed Shadow Minister of Education under Opposition Leader, Marc Bean, as education is my passion. I firmly believe in the quality of our education system, and while there can always be improvements, we must celebrate the successes and work to ensure there are more of them. The future is bright and I wish all who participate in our education system the best for the 2014-15 school year.”

  1. We Are Not Amused! says:

the future is bright, but not with the plp.

    • The Underground Movement says:

It’s not garenteed that there future will be bright with the OBA either.
Both Political Partys have serious flaws in them and both are capable of winning the next election.
Both the PLP and the OBA are more than capable of erasing a bright future too!
With OBA’s plans of wide privatization for Bermuda there will be no future – not if your Bermudian. – it’s not going
to be no bright future if non Bermudians conquer Bermuda and replace Bermudians with Forien workers. – and with
the PLP they are no better because a lot of there policys are out of wack too’ – so with either Political Party
      were’s the Future.
Who will our Children and our Grand Children work for — the Russians, the Arabs, the US Big Corperations or will
it be the Chinese.– I can immagine our Buses with a thin pink stripe and a Greyhound in the center of them and the
Ferrys saying Vodgosmir Bermuda on the side along with a picture of Putin.
and to add to this – Bermudians making only Eight Dollars and HOUR’ LOL – Bright Future – LOL’ — Yeah right!……… basically were done one way or the other’.

      • sonso says:

        Famous?

      • Cow Polly says:

I don’t understand your logic amongst all the paranoia – are you suggesting that the only way to privatize is to bring in foreign investment? Do you not think that Bermudians are capable of starting up and running their own businesses? Just because the Government can’t run the ferries or the buses or keep our streets clean doesn’t mean that an enterprising Bermudian entrepreneur isn’t capable. Tsk, tsk

      • BDA DINGY says:

I sure hope not!- scary stuff here but it go that way if some people had there way.
Wasn’t it ex Premier Dr.Brown who privatized TCD and put 6 people out of work by doing so.
Hey Underground Movement the PLP is marching for something they created.
I have read your blogs before and who or what you are have no love for either Political Party.
are you guys at war or something.

  2. Luis Suarez says:

Do we really need a “back to school message”? I mean, is this really necessary?

  3. Hmmm says:

Hi Lovita, it would be nice for you to admit to people that you were wrong and we didn’t go back to the plantation follwing the PLP loss.

  4. Prayerful says:

To the “Underground Movement” I just know that you majored in English and Spelling at school!

    • X man says:

Does it matter! I see all sorts of Typo’s all in every topic , so who the &^%%$#@@ care’s – so long as the point get’s across.
Your problem is you don’t like what was said so now your trying to come up with this spelling bs.

  5. watching says:

What is with the negative comments? Ms Foggo’s statement is hardly political. It is an encouragement to the teachers, parents and students as they begin the school year.

    • hmmm says:

The whole island wishes the kids the very best in the school year…., but this is just posturing for media attention. She made nasty divisive comments in the public domain when running for election.

She can’t pretend it didn’t happen. People don’t forget.

      • LOL (Original TM*) says:

In truth she will remeber the person wh stated in front of the class that many in the class would not be good enough to pump her gas.

        LOL guess who said that.

  6. Self says:

When Ms. Foggo was canvassing at my home, I asked her some very pointed questions about her party’s performance. She couldn’t help but agree with me on many of my points. When I asked her why she, and others, did not speak up, she stated that she had to go along with her party even if she didn’t always agree with what they did.

So one very important message Ms. Foggo should convey to the schoolchildren is…don’t give in to peer pressure…it can be your downfall!!!

  7. Bunfight says:

Actually Watching, what you say is not strictly correct if you read the message again you will see that Ms. Foggo damned the teachers with faint praise, whether intentionally or not.

She could easily have praised them all as she would no doubt have done for any of the other essential public services but chose to preface her comments with ‘the vast majority of you’ and ‘many of you’, this demonstrates a common misconception that some teachers do not pull their weight. It is a shame that our educators are not be praised unconditionally in the way they praise our children such praise is so much more constructive.

  8. Realist says:

I hope Ms.Foggo explained to the children that her party saddled them with debt they are going to have to pay.Work hard to pay taxes to the govt to pay for the unaccountable spending of the PLP!

  9. Bermudians make the Diference says:

Are all you people so stupid that no matter what anybody says you find fault ? It would of been a better day for Bermuda if “Hmmm” and a lot of you negative people – would get some education and work to improve Bermuda. This place is too small for you to be constantly bickering.

All of you wannabee intellects – JUST GROW UP ! You are a bigger problem than the damn politicians.

    • LOL (Original TM*) says:

Who are you calling uneducated? At least spell your name right.

LOL “All of you wannabee intellects – JUST GROW UP ! You are a bigger problem than the damn politicians.” must go for you too.
