BTA To Host Juniors Triathlon Camp In February

The Bermuda Triathlon Association will be hosting a Junior’s Camp in February with triathlon coach Matt Valyo giving instruction.

The Junior Camp from February 9th until 11th is for those wanting to either try and make the standards for the second camp and/or those who are new to the sport or would like to improve. “Must be able to swim 100 meters without stopping and they have to have a road bike in working order”, the event notice said. The cost is $150 for this camp.

An extended camp from February 12th until 15th will be by invitation only and will be extended to anyone attending the Feb 9-11 camp who meets set standard/criteria as determined by coach Matt. This camp will cost an additional $200.

Interested athletes must be turning 13 as of December 31 2015 and the deadline for registering is Jan. 15 2015. Contact Jennifer Gunn at 524-9236 if you have any questions about the camp. Signed form, waiver and payment must be received no later than Jan. 15th and can be dropped off to the BTA Mailbox at either Bicycle Works or Winners Edge.

The event notice says, “Coach Matt Valyo is the Regional Athlete Development Coordinator for USAT Northeast, a USA Triathlon Level 2 Coach and a Certified Personal Trainer with the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

“He is currently pursuing his BS in Clinical Exercise Physiology at Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts. Matt is the camp director for the USAT Northeast Junior Development Camps as well as The USAT Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Collegiate High Performance Camp.

“He served in the US Coast Guard for 8 years and as a paramedic for 10 years designing training plans for the military, police, fire, doctors and nurses.”
