Somerset’s Brangman Wins Safe Hands Award

August 4, 2015

Somerset Cricket Club’s Derrick Brangman is the 2015 Calvin “Bummy” Symonds Safe Hands Award recipient, joining such Cup Match greats as Lionel Cann, Janeiro Tucker, and Dwayne “Sluggo” Leverock as the tenth player from Somerset Cricket Club to receive the award since its inception in 1998.

Sponsored by Bermuda HealthCare Services and Brown-Darrell Clinic, Mr. Brangman today [Aug 4] was presented with a check for $1,000, a travel voucher for $1,000, and the Safe Hands Trophy. Mr. Brangman’s name will also be placed alongside past recipients on the Calvin “Bummy” Symonds” Safe Hands Award shield.

Judges declared Derrick Brangman’s diving catch off St. George’s Christian Burgess as the best catch of the match, earning the SCC player the coveted prize.

The Safe Hands Award is named for Cup Match great Calvin “Bummy” Symonds. Renowned as one of Bermuda’s best bowlers and batsmen, Mr. Symonds captained the St. George’s Cricket Club team from 1961, resulting in eight wins.
