Man in Custody, Death of Mr Stange-Simmons

There has been an incident in the Southampton area this evening [Nov 26], with unofficial reports indicating that it is a very serious situation. Police are expected to make an official statement shortly and we will update with that as able.
Update 11.02pm: Police can be seen in the Sentinel Hill area in Southampton.
Update 11.09pm: Police confirm that a man was found in an “unresponsive state”, and are expected to provide more official details momentarily.
Update 11.29pm: The police confirm that around 9.30pm they were executing a search warrant when they discovered a man, believed to be in his 20s, in an “unresponsive state” inside the property, and said the circumstances surrounding his death are considered “suspicious.”
Update 11.41pm: The formal police statement said, “Around 9:30pm on Thursday, November 26th police officers executing a search warrant at a Sentinel Hill, Southampton residence discovered a male believed to be in his 20s in an unresponsive state inside, under suspicious circumstances.
“No further information regarding the deceased will be given at this time until next of kin has been notified.
“A full investigation is underway and any persons that may have information regarding this incident should contact the Serious Crime Unit on 247-1739 or the anonymous and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477.”

Update 2.40pm: The police have officially confirmed the death of 26-year-old Dejion Stange-Simmons and said a man is in custody in relation to the incident.
A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 26-year-old Dejion Stange-Simmons and extends condolences to his family and friends.
“Mr. Stange-Simmons was found in an unresponsive state under suspicious circumstances at a Sentinel Hill, Southampton residence by police officers executing a search warrant around 9:30pm Thursday and later pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor.
“A man is now in custody in relation to this incident and a Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist the deceased’s family at this difficult time.
“Detectives continue their investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of Mr. Stange-Simmons and persons with any information should contact the Serious Crime Unit on 247-1739 or the anonymous and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477.”
