Menuhin Foundation To Present Exclusive Show
The Menuhin Foundation is getting set to present an “exclusive” evening of cocktails, appetizers, and music in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Lord Menuhin’s life.
The public is invited to attend the celebration, which will take place on Thursday, February 18 from 6.00pm to 8.00pm at the Bermuda Society of Arts at City Hall in Hamilton; tickets cost $100 each.
A spokesperson said, “In 1976, Lord Yehudi Menuhin was in Bermuda to perform in the Bermuda Festival. While here, his visit to the string group at Warwick Academy sparked his interest and out of it grew his idea to establish a string quartet on island that would provide instruction in stringed instruments to all of Bermuda’s school children.”
“To take his dream to fruition, the Menuhin Foundation was created.
“The goal of the Foundation is to ‘foster and develop an interest in classical and other music and the playing thereof’ and ‘to recruit teachers and organize and produce programs and concerts and other forms of entertainment and musical education” [The Menuhin Foundation Act 1976].’
“2016 marks the 40th anniversary of that very special visit, and the 100th anniversary of Lord Menuhin’s birth. Help us commemorate this very special year, by joining us to celebrate with those who have contributed to the continuation of Lord Menuhin’s vision: the teachers and students, past and present, of the Menuhin Foundation.”
To reserve tickets to the event, email Menuhin.foundation.events@gmail.com; tickets are also available at The Island Shop at 3 Queen Street in Hamilton.
