Bermuda’s Davis Cup Team Defeat Antigua

Bermuda’s Davis Cup team, which is participating in Montevideo, Uruguay, defeated Antigua & Barbuda 2-1.

It was a must win situation for Bermuda after suffering a loss to Jamaica at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club on red clay.

Up first playing for Bermuda at the number two position was Gavin Manders who gave Bermuda a 1-0 lead by defeating Cordell Williams 6-2, 6-1 in little over an hour.

Playing at the number one position for Bermuda was David Thomas who went down 6-1, 6-1 to Jody Maginley.

With the tie now at 1-1 coach Steve Bean decided to go with the pair of Gavin Manders and veteran doubles player Jenson Bascome. This combination proved their worth by defeating Jody Maginley and Carlton Bedminster 6-4, 6-1 to secure victory for Bermuda.

The team now face Honduras in their next match.
