Collision: Man Trapped Under Car Rescued

[Updated] Emergency services responded to a collision tonight [May 27] on Point Finger Road that involved a car and motorcycle which resulted in a man being trapped under the car. The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment and there are traffic diversions in the area.

The BFRS said, “The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service received a call in our Emergency Dispatch Center at approximately 10:15pm tonight, Sunday, May 27, 2018, for a Road Traffic Collision on Point Finger Road in Paget.

Spokesperson for the Service, Lieutenant Russann Francis states “we responded to a road traffic collision involving a car and a motorcycle.

“On our arrival it was discovered that one male patient was trapped under a car and we quickly responded with the use of extrication tools including high pressure lifting bags to raise the vehicle and safely rescue the patient.

“The patient received several injuries and abrasions and was transported immediately to KEMH for further assessment and treatment.

“The public should be aware that Point Finger Road is currently inaccessible from Berry Hill Road to South Shore Road due to the investigation.”

Police Media Relations Manager Dwayne Caines said, “Police and Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of a collision that took place around 10:14pm tonight [Sunday] on Point Finger Road in Paget outside of the hospital.

“Details are still emerging but it appears that a car collided with a motorcycle and as a result, members of the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service used extricating equipment to lift the car off of the male victim who then was conveyed to the hospital where the rider of the cycle is listed in serious condition at this time.

“The road has been cordoned whilst the relevant personnel process the scene.”

Update May 28, 11.57am: A police spokesperson said, “A 30-year-old male motorcyclist hurt in a collision with a car around 10:15pm Sunday, May 27th on Point Finger Road in Paget was recovering in hospital this morning.

“It appears that the car driver and motorcycle rider were traveling in the same direction when the collision occurred outside the entrance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

“The rider involved, believed to be from Pembroke, ended up under the car and was extricated by Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel.

“Although his injuries were initially thought to be serious, after medical assessment they are now deemed non-life threatening and he is expected to be discharged in due course.

“Traffic diversions were in effect in the area for approximately two hours while the relevant police personnel processed the scene.

“There were no other injuries reported and inquiries continue.

“Any witnesses that have not already come forward are asked to contact the main police telephone number 295-0011.”
