Video: BFRS Extinguish Fire In Hamilton

[Updated] Emergency services responded to a fire at around 10.45am this morning [Sept 3] in the area of Dundonald Street in Hamilton. Smoke could be seen emitting from a building in the area until the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire. Further details are limited at this time, however we will update as able.

Update 3.49pm: The BFRS said, “A call was recieved via Fire Dispatch at 10.44hrs reporting a structural fire in a one bedroom upper apartment in the old BIU headquarters building on Dundonald St.

“Upon arrival smoke was coming out of the kitchen door of the apartment. Firefighters entered the residence wearing breathing apparatus and quickly extinguished the blaze. The fire was confined to the kitchen area, but the apartment received smoke damage throughout.

“An elderly male occupant was transported to KEMH with smoke inhalation. Inquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing and under investigation.

“While at this fire a call was received at 12.05hrs via fire dispatch reporting a second structural fire at 25 Harbour Rd. just west of Newstead.

“Upon arrival firefighters noticed smoke coming from beneath the front door of an apartment. Firefighters entered wearing breathing apparatus and extinguished the blaze.

“The fire was confined to the living room area, but the apartment received smoke damage throughout. No occupants were home at time of the fire and no injuries reported. Eleven personnel and two appliances attended both incidents. Inquiries into the cause of the Paget fire are ongoing.”
