Locals have a new and natural way to enjoy live entertainment with the opening of the amphitheatre at Riddell’s Bay Gardens & Nature Reserve in Warwick, with the beautiful open air venue recently playing host to the Devil’s Isle Shakespeare Company’s production of Romeo & Juliet.
Bernews asked for information about access and rental arrangements, and a spokesperson explained that Romeo & Juliet is the launch of the amphitheatre and future rental arrangements are “based on direct inquiry rather than set fees and go directly to the upkeep of the amphitheatre and surrounding nature reserve. ”
“Riddell’s Bay Gardens and Nature Reserve welcomes the public to enjoy its grounds on designated days during daylight hours, with parking available in designated areas. The amphitheater serves primarily as a venue for performing arts and theatre and is available for public use by prior arrangement,” the spokesperson explained.
According to their website, “Riddell’s Bay Gardens and Nature Reserve is a peaceful, open space where nature in Bermuda can be experienced at its best. Created with the help of local experts, designers, and conservationists, the reserve is dedicated to protecting and restoring the island’s native plants and wildlife.
Noting that is spans 66 acres, their website said, “You’ll find a mix of open landscapes, Bermuda cedar forests, clusters of yellowwood, and a wide variety of native and endemic species that are becoming increasingly rare elsewhere on the island.
“The project began in 2016, when two environmentalists set out to transform the former private golf course into something more sustainable and accessible. With support from Bermudian investors and government approval, the reserve opened to the public in 2023.”
The amphitheatre was designed to operate in keeping with the reserve’s environmental focus, with the website noting, “Solar battery generation. Native planting. Limestone walls preserved, casuarina repurposed, wetlands restored. The Amphitheatre runs inside the reserve and on its terms, not the other way around.”
