Facebook Court Case Carried Internationally
For the second time in recent months, a Bermuda incident involving the social network Facebook has been picked up by the international press.
Yesterday [Jan 7], well-known defence lawyer Charles Richardson was charged in Magistrates Court relating to alleged defamation stemming from remarks alleged to have been made by him in a Facebook status update about a police officer on May 11, 2010.
The story has been picked up by the Associated Press today, with the headline “Bermuda defence lawyer accused of libel over Facebook comments”.
The article notes Mr Richardson is one of the best defence lawyers on the island, and says Mr Richardson is accused of writing: “This detective inspector really has it in for me … I really hope it ain’t because I’m good at what I do and I’m black … that would make him vindictive and racist.”
The Associated Press articles are available to numerous organizations worldwide. As of this writing, the story has been picked up by powerhouse websites Yahoo and MSNBC, as well as various other news websites from nations including Canada, India, Taiwan, and the United States.

Why is this international news? Must be a slow news day for the AP – others apparently.
Charles I told you: “Haters Make You Famous!!!!!
This is just another attempt among several attempts to castrate a ybm who is providing a source of inspiration for other ybm like me who are out in the trenches on this little 24sq mile onion patch just trying to slag it out in life. Trust me the more you successful you become, or the higher you aspire to achieve, the more ardent their zest. in trying to get you, so it seems at times. Thing is, you could not buy the type of publicity that this case is getting
“I really hope it ain’t because I’m good at what I do” – Can’t help but love a lawyer with a good sense of humor!
Of course this is news. It’s got nothing to do with some lawyer and a policeman in a spat on a tiny island in the middle of the Atlantic…no one cares about the participants I wouldn’t have thought. The fact that this could very well pave the way for future law suits etc etc depending on the outcome is of relevance worldwide because Facebook is a world wide phenomenon.
If this isn’t BS case of the month, I don’t know what is. Sensitive cops….need a hug?? Everywhere else cops gotta worry about dodging bullets but not here, cause they arrive AFTER the gunshots…looking for shells like they up Warwick Camp.
