Bermuda Actress is Broadway Bound
Bermudian actress Rebecca Faulkenberry is Broadway bound.
She is among the “supergroup” of performers in the smash hit musical “Rock of Ages” who producers announced today [Feb. 14] will kick off performances at the Helen Hayes Theatre in New York when the five-time Tony Award nominated musical returns to Broadway.
Ms Faulkenberry is currently playing the part of Sherrie in the US national tour of the 1980s teen musical which features the songs of Journey, Bon Jovi, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar and other groups.
Educated at the Bermuda High School and trained at Indiana University and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, the actor, singer and dancer appeared alongside co-star and “American Idol” finalist Constantine Maroulis on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno last year when the “Rock of Ages” cross-country tour was being launched.
Ms Faulkenberry regularly appeared in Bermuda Musical & Dramatic Society and Bermuda Gilbert & Sullivan Society productions when she was growing up.
Described as a rock/jukebox musical, with a book by Chris D’Arienzo, “Rock of Ages” is built around classic rock hits from that decade. Set in 1987 on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, “Rock of Ages” tells the story of a small town girl who meets a big city rocker. They fall in love in the city’s most famous rock club to the musical accompaniment of the most famous songs of the decade.
The musical opened in Los Angeles in 2006, began its New York run off-Broadway in 2008 and transferred to Broadway in 2009. The show temporarily closed last month so it could be relaunched at the Helen Hayes Theatre in March.
“Rock of Ages” will mark Miss Faulkenberry’s Broadway debut.
