OK, stop me if you have heard this before. This is good.
So, the building came in at just 30 million over budget, not bad all considering. But the funny part is that the taxpayer doesn’t actually seem to own the building. No, really. Some trusts own it, and it gets better because it seems no one is telling how the owners are actually paying for this building which has been built on their property. Now that is a plantation question.
I do believe our Lederene knows about it and could explain the details….

In the same way the taxpayer won’t own the new hospital. The beauty of PPP.

Is the court/police station an under the table PPP?

    • Observer says:

Don’t understand it, the parking all around the building says Police, thats not right. Then you have about 2 spots or so, that you can park, but a building of that magatude and the volume of people other then Police have to deal with the building also, not including the private sector on that street whick require parking. I think it is so Selfish on the Police part. Thenk you have the Commissioners parking right outside, their vehicles should be tucked under the building which has underground parking instead of taking up the space unneccesary all day and out of harms way. That would not be allowed in any country for a person of high ranks with their vehicles exposed, now come on guys, free up some space, we have seniors and all need to use the building also, so lets get some public Parking out and around this building.

      • The Rock says:

spot on. i was hoping that after the construction there’ll be some additional available parking spaces and not expected the worse that they are even getting the other spots like the one in front of weir enterprise. :(

      • Just wondering says:

I agree with you about the fact that the high rankers’ cars should be parked underground for safety reasons but why are you blaming the Police for the parking situation? I would have thought that such decisions would be made by the government since their the ones that built the building.

On a side note does any one know if the Commissioner and his staff are moving in or are they still next door??

        • tradition says:

This is really a Corp. of Hamilton issue. Talk to them.

  2. Triangle Drifter says:

Another great PLP ‘ACHIEVEMENT’ albeit way over budget & at least 6 years late from first promised. Yet another example of a group of managers who could not run a snowcone stand.

    Piss-poor planning

  4. SOMERSET OG says:

Don’t you know by now that they love inconveniencing the public? They want you to walk a few blocks so you’ll be too tired to argue with them.

    • Observer says:

They even took over the cycle parking!!!!

      • tradition says:

Now this is sad. Also note there is no disabled parking either. What are they to do?

  5. momo says:

    What an UGLY building!

  6. Just wondering says:

just asking again….WHY we blaming the police for the parking?? thought the owners of the building would be the ones responsible for that.

    • ok says:

Actually its the Corp. of Hamilton that deal with parking within the City but these people don’t care about that they just want something to moan and groan at as usual. The police are easy targets because nothing they do (or in this case don’t do) is right. These people on here think they know everything when in actual fact they know nothing. If every Minister and judge didn’t have a parking spot in the underground parking bays then maybe the police could have parked under there, but no they are way too important for that. It wasn’t good enough to have free parking on House of Assembly property that’s too far of a walk to the new court building.

      • 32n64w says:

The Corporation of Hamilton have a standing policy requiring building developers to include some form of on-site parking. Clearly the Government (or more accurately the (ir)responsible PLP Minister) approved the design without this requirement.

  7. i agree says:

so does that mean we now get to park on the street where the “old” police station is?!

  8. Joe says:

You guys are so in the dark. Government has too many parking spaces. Know those spaces they put in opposite Cabinet Building in the grounds of the Assembly? Well, I bet you thought there were all used by government. Nope. Many are rented to exempt company people.
But really this new building is not about parking. Someone got a new building on their land paid for by the taxpayer, and there was a 30M cost overrun.
    But parking, yeah. More.
