Upcoming U/12 Bermuda Rugby Tour Of Ireland

April 27, 2011

Bermuda’s Under/12 National Rugby Team will embark on a tour of Ireland on April 29th.  Twenty-four young rugby players from nine different schools across the island have been training hard three days a week in preparation, as well as participating in fund raising activities to help pay for the trip.

At their last training session today [Apr.26] players received their tour kit, with well known rugby player Bobby Hurdle coming out to present each member of the squad with their shirt and pass on some words of wisdom to the kids. Video below:

One of the organizers said, “The tour and the program is about much more than winning a rugby match – it’s about bringing kids from different family backgrounds, different schools, different economic backgrounds together in a situation where they would not otherwise find themselves and working together with people with whom they perhaps would not interact with in their normal day-to-day lives. ”

“Our players come from a wide range of backgrounds and we are proud of the fact that we have students from 9 public and private schools represented on the tour. Friendships made in rugby are long-lasting, and it starts from an early age.”

Bermuda’s under-12 squad: Marco McGavick, Jacob Robb, Peter Kiernan, Jacques deVerteuil, Johnny Page, Padraic O’Shaughnessy, Kieron Smith, Robbie Turnbull, Tyler Kendall, Ethan Krebs, Philip Matthias, Isaiah Bell, Alex Doyling, Sam McKittrick, Kellin Williams, Sean Tucker, Logan Ball, Billy Montgomery, Tariq Thomas, Max Kuzyk, Cameron Lewis, Enchye Caisey, Johnny Hodgkins, and Alizay Furbert.
