Bermudians Compete In Boston Marathon

24,000 athletes took to the streets of Boston, Massachusetts yesterday [Apr.18] for the 2011 Boston Marathon, and amongst them were over a dozen Bermuda residents.

Dirk Hasselkuss finished 3,372nd when he recorded a time of 3:12:05, while Tokio Re CEO Tatsuhiko Hoshina clocked a time of 3:14:15 to finish 3,760th.

Giuseppe Guglielmucci finished 5,649th with a time of 3:22:48, William Peckett finished 7,222nd after crossing the line in a time of 3:28:33.

Christopher Brealey finished 9,705th with a time of 3:37:05, while Andy Starr finished 10,647th after recording a time of 3:40:27.

Laura Haynes clocked a time of 3:43:41 to finish 11,557th, while Laura Keyes finished 11,824th clocking 3:44.34.

Calvin Steede crossed the line in a time of 3:58:42 to finish 15,850th, while April Vesey finished in a time of 3:58:52 finishing 15,897th.

Samantha Stephens was clocked in at a time of 4:06:37 finishing 17,405th, while Stephen Dunkley finished 18,488th clocking a time of 4:13:21.

Sarah Nicholls crossed the line in a time of 4:21:29 to finish 19,600th, while Ian Gilbertson’s time of 4:43:54 saw him finish 21,639 and Joann Lee finished 23,503rd with a time of 5:34:52.

Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai won the Boston Marathon with the fastest time ever recorded for the 26.2-mile race: two hours, three minutes and two seconds. That’s an average speed of 4.69 minutes per mile. As the race had a strong tailwind on a downhill course, the time is not recognized by track’s international governing body as a record.
