Cruise Critic: Tourist Injured During Drug Deal
“Bermuda police have concluded that an alleged unprovoked attack on a Norwegian Dawn passenger was actually a drug deal gone wrong,” reported Cruise Critic, a popular online cruise review website.
Someone using the screenname ‘Cruiser Willy’ posted a story on their website on June 20 claiming that a fellow cruise ship passenger said he was “punched in the face and knocked to the ground” while walking back from Snorkel Park on June 14 at 4 pm.
The original posting also claimed: “The Bermudian police visited and interviewed the victim in his stateroom. Police identifield the assailant as someone they’d been looking for due to similar previous attacks.”
The post described the alleged assailant as a “tall and imposing black Bermudian.”
However a subsequent report on Cruise Critic quotes Bermuda Police Commissioner Michael DeSilva as saying the incident was not reported to the police at the time, and that the incident was not a robbery but was “sustained in connection with an illegal drug transaction.”
“The Bermuda Police Service can confirm that the incident was not reported to the police at the time, but it was brought to our attention today,” the report quotes Commissioner DeSilva as saying.
“We have spoken to ship’s security and we are satisfied that the person in this incident was not, in fact, the victim of a robbery. We understand the person’s injury was sustained in connection with an illegal drug transaction.”
“We note that [the] alleged victim chose not to report the incident to the Bermuda Police. We further note that the author of the post is not the actual victim and does not have all the facts of the matter.”
This morning [June 23], after Cruise Critic posted the story containing the Police rebuttal, ‘Cruiser Willy’ posted on the website again saying, “I was told that our ship’s ‘victim’ was visited by 3 Bermudian police officers, 2 male and one female, who questioned him extensively. Since all three officers were black with varying shades of skin color, they allegedly asked ‘the victim’ to compare the shade of his assailant’s skin color to each of theirs.”
“The victim told me that police had been contacted by the Dawn’s security staff. He also told me that he guessed his assailant’s height to be around 6’4″ and that ironically one of the 3 officers was roughly that height….and that he said to the tall officer ‘I couldn’t identify my attacker’s facial features other than his skin tone…..it could have been YOU’.”
“Could ‘the victim’ have totally fabricated his story? Certainly. But if so, and the Bermudian police had no knowledge of this ‘attack’ until I posted on this thread, then how and where did they deduce that there was ‘drugs’ involved?” Read his full entry here.
haha thank god the record was set straight. The drug dealers walking around dockyard are not safe…what a joke.
this guy was buying drugs IN dockyard and was attacked. he wasn’t just part of an unprovoked attack, I think the dockyard dealers should get some friendlier staff, its something like customer service in retail.
Shouldn’t we be able to step of the ship and get a spliff without being assaulted? Legalize it in Dockyard, locals will have to squeeze through the tourists to get there own without being criminals or supporting organized crime. See US prohibition, early 1900′s, see Amsterdam late 1900′s.
Hey, I see a wide open opportunity for some enterprising, customer friendly Bermudians to get into the retail trade in a big way. After all, we were pirates at one time -and that was illegal. Time will forgive and forget.

my nephew Corn-Shoulders wuz on vacation in Oslo once, he said it was real safe…apparently de women are beautiful n de sandwiches only run out when guyz forget 2 replace dem. NEways, he was tellin me dat 1 time he was walkin down de street back to his hotel, and dis bedrin came up to him n wuz like “PLEASE PUNCH ME IN THE FACE, NOW NOW NOW!” (but in norweigan so it probly sounded crazy). at first corn-shoulders was like “NAH dun, whats wrong wif u?” but de guy got more and more persistent, fell on his knees cryin, and basically begged my nephew to jook him in his chops, until he had no choice but 2 comply. WHAP! knocked de bedrin right off his feet. Corn-Shoulders told me dat he had neva seen sum1 look so happy in his life, even tho de guy was unconscious n missin like sixteen teeth.
