Sunday September 6th: “Good News” Spotlight
News that Bermuda High School celebrated strong I/GCSE results from its Year 11 cohort, Erin Jones, Kennedy Wilks, Za’Khari Turner and Owen Neal received Walkers’ Legal Bursary and Scholarship Awards, and Sydney Rego and Catrina Furtado completed a 17-day academic and cultural programme in the Azores were all some of the positive news stories from the past week.
In additional good news, Mount Saint Agnes and CedarBridge Academy students won KFC’s inaugural School Video Commercial Contest, Jose Barroso and Vincent Chaves won silver at the Heineken Pickleball World Cup in Vietnam, and Emma Simmons won the bronze medal in the Women’s Singles 3.5 50+ division at the International Pickleball Tournament.
Other good news stories included Team Hayward hosting a free back-to-school event at CedarBridge Academy, bringing families together; the Bermuda Centre for Creative Learning [BCCL] welcoming returning and new students for the start of the new school year; and ‘Transforming the Beautiful Game: The Clyde Best Story’ winning Best International Film at BronzeLens.
More good news included the PHC Foundation awarding a total of $31,000 in scholarships to seven students, Trey Maybury, Luke Foster and Ian Da Silva receiving the Bermuda Zoological Society’s 2026 Steinhoff Awards, and Hadaz Philpott, Natalia Dill, J’Naz Richards and Nabiilah Nasir receiving Paget Parish Council scholarships and bursaries.
