Sailing: Peter Miller Places 3rd In New York

mac sailing aug 11College sailor Peter Miller had another successful match racing outing at last weekend’s Oakcliff Evo-Sport “Clinegatta” in Oyster Bay, NY, an ISAF Grade 4 event.

Miller and his team placed 3rd in a field of 10 teams and was the leader going into the second and final day of racing.

The team raced the Oakcliff Sailing Center owned Swedish Match 40s. These thrilling boats are used on the World Match Racing Tour, and will be used in the Knickerbocker Cup sailed in Long Island Sound in a few weeks.

Miller will be a senior this September at Connecticut College and was the Captain of the college’s “Camels” nationaly ranked sailing team this past season.

His 3rd place finish in his second match race event event pushed him to 370th in the ISAF World rankings. Miller is considering fielding a team for the Bermuda National Match Race Championships where the winners gain entry to the Argo Gold Cup.

From the Oakcliff Acorn web site: “The moderate but sufficient winds allowed for a great clinic, and a quick learning curve so by the time racing started on Saturday the sailors were all ready to push the limits in terms of the rules. There were many close calls and a few scrapes as well.”

“At the end of the day, Coach Singsen with his King’s Point team came up with the overall win. Nick Dugdale with a mixed team from CMRC and Oakcliff’s Mike ‘Koko’ Komar and as well as acorn Claudia Delahoy came in a very close second.

“Peter Miller, who was 3rd at Oakcliff’s Youth Match Race two weeks ago went into the day in 1st and finished 3rd. A tough break but a GREAT young team Magnus Sandberg, “The Canadians” with a Swedish skipper finished up 4th.
Maine Maritime & CMRC’s Chris Poole with his little sis on board came in 5th.

“Oakcliff’s Team Quaglio overcame breakdowns and other challenges to finish 6th with another Oakcliff team/opera singer Anthony Pulgram in 7th. Rounding out the fleet were, Seattle’s Jonathan Flack with a local team of Oakcliff Supporters including Jamie Ebenau, Danielle Gallow, Chris Dundon and Beck Henderer-Pena 8th David Storrs with two acorn’s Jacon and Randy landed in 9th & Alec Snyder with acorn Aidan Vascatto in his debut on main finished 10th.”
