Accountant General To Launch New System

November 1, 2011

The Accountant General’s Department is in the final stages of the implementation of a major upgrade to the Government’s financial information management system.

The financial information management system is being upgraded from the J D Edwards World version to the Enterprise One (“E1”) version and will go live tomorrow [Nov.2].

The upgraded system will be implemented in phases and will eventually be interfaced with all financial systems across Government – hence it will be a comprehensive ERP system.

Assistant Accountant General David King said: “The implementation will change the way that the Bermuda Government does business. Many of the features embedded in the upgraded system will strengthen the Government’s internal controls.”

Mr. King also noted that Government processes will be changed to utilize the electronic features of the system. These features will reduce the time that it takes to make a payment and the associated costs to the Government.

In addition, source documents will be scanned and electronically forwarded in the system. This is will assist in the “Green” efforts of the Government, make operations more efficient by streamlining processes, reduce manual efforts and use less paper.

In a later phase, this system will also allow internal users, as well as the public, to eventually view and retrieve information regarding their salaries and benefits, accounts, payments, etc. online.

In closing Mr. King said, “The Accountant General’s Department is currently advising all Government vendors through radio spots and newspaper advertisements on the changes in business processes regarding purchase orders, so that they will be well prepared for the go-live date of November 2, 2011”.
