Kathmandu Charity’s Christmas Market

November 30, 2011

Bermuda’s Kathmandu Kids Club will be staging their annual KatKids Christmas Market on Friday [Dec. 2] from 5.30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Mount Saint Agnes School Auditorium.

The festive and exotic evening is organised by the Kathmandu Kids Club, a community fundraising group of dedicated volunteers who raise much needed funds for the Bermuda charitable venture the ISIS Foundation.

The organisers say the Christmas Market will be an ideal way to make a start on your Christmas shopping, while all the net proceeds from the evening will go directly and undiluted to ISIS Foundation projects, helping children in serious need in both Nepal and Uganda.

KatKids event manager Nicola Jones said: “The Christmas Market will have plenty of opportunities to find one of kind gifts while helping a very worthwhile cause. Come and browse through our stands filled with beautiful beaded jewellery, hand crafted clothing and alluring art work all direct from Nepal and Uganda all while enjoying the festive and exotic atmosphere.”

The mulled wine and Christmas Carols will bring the festive spirit to one and all and the evening will light up as Bermuda Donquili, African Dance troupe, take to the stage.

“The unique atmosphere of the KatKids Market and low $10 cover charge, make this night one you absolutely should not miss” explained Nicola Jones, “Come enjoy traditional Nepalese food and enjoy happy hour drinks all night.”

Sharon Beesley, ISIS Foundation co-founer and president of the Kathmandu Kids Club, said “We hope that people can come, not only to support the market financially but also to gain understanding of the work that a Bermuda charity is involved in Nepal and Uganda.” she said. “Due to the kindness and generosity of Bermudians, ISIS has been able to make a huge difference to the lives of thousands of people in Nepal and Uganda. The Kathmandu Kids Club has been fundraising for The ISIS Foundation for over five years now and we are very grateful for the support.”

Tickets can be bought online in advance on www.premiertickets.bm, while there will also be tickets on the door from 5.30 p.m. on the 2nd for cash only. However, the organizers strongly recommend buying tickets in advance to avoid disappointment, as tickets are limited this year and KatKids events have sold out in the past.

ABOUT THE ISIS FOUNDATION AND THE KATHMANDU KIDS CLUB

The Kathmandu Kids Club is a unique volunteer fundraising group that was formed to help raise money for the projects of The ISIS Foundation, an international development organisation, working with communities and local partners to promote the wellbeing of children and families in Uganda and Nepal.

Through their projects they aim to give children and families the opportunity to live happy, healthy and productive lives. In particular ISIS believes it is essential to build strong foundations through improving basic health, nutrition and education in severely disadvantaged communities. By focusing on children, both directly and through their families, they hope to break the cycle of poverty and dependence affecting these communities. The ISIS Foundation has touched the lives of tens of thousands of people in poverty since it was founded in 1997.

The ISIS Foundation is part of the ISIS Group and supported by the ISIS Businesses, representing an innovative partnership between the profit and non-profit sectors.The group consists of a law firm, a fund administration firm, a corporate finance firm and its own non-profit foundation, The ISIS Foundation. The ISIS businesses fund 100% of the administration and infrastructure of The ISIS Foundation, guaranteeing that 100% of donor funds go towards project related expenses. To date the ISIS businesses have donated more than US$ 3 million to the Foundation.

Their Nepalese projects include providing holistic care to more than 100 trafficked children;
supporting a free clinic which delivers health care to over 6,000 people in Kathmandu; funding wide-ranging development initiatives in the impoverished and remote area of Humla in North West Nepal including the installation of pit latrines, smokeless stoves, solar lighting and slow sand water filters; and funding a Tibetan doctor who travels throughout the Humla region for eight months of the year treating thousands of people who would otherwise be without the most basic health care.
In Uganda, ISIS has partnered with a rural hospital to support its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Maternity Ward, Community Health Care Department and HIV/AIDS programme. ISIS also supports the well being and education of 30 street kids in the capital, Kampala.
