Minister Minors Remarks Appear In Full Below:

Good evening,

It gives me great pleasure to be here to recognize and celebrate the participants and business partners of the Tri 30 Work Experience Programme Initiative 2011.

It was through the foresight of the Government and the grass root efforts of technical officers of the Community Education and Development Programme, that the Tri 30 initiative was conceived.

The purpose of this programme is to provide direct and immediate access, opportunity, and exposure to meet the needs of out-of-school, unemployed young Bermudians, ages 18 to 25.

This initiative was executed by providing immediate intervention, prevention, and solutions toward entry level employment through the creation of the Tri 30 Programme: 30 jobs, 30 people, 30 employers.

The objective is to create entry level training and employment in diverse occupational areas in the workforce.

This was accomplished through a collaborative cross-ministry tripartite approach with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Department of Labour, Training, employment services, and the business industry.

It is evident here this evening that we have achieved our goal in creating synergies between the public and private sector which have clearly led to providing interim solutions toward our long term goal of engaging young Bermudians and preparing them for re-entry into the workforce.

The benefits of this programme have been invaluable and far reaching, and it has had a direct and indirect impact on the community at-large.

For example; out-of-school, unemployed young Bermudians have reaped the benefits as general employees, engaged in a diverse range of occupations, namely office administrative assistants, marketing assistants, mechanics, retail/sales associates, culinary/hospitality assistants, cosmetology assistants, childcare providers, and computer technician assistants to name a few.

Additionally, job seekers and employers are given the opportunity to learn from each other in a real work environment from on the job training.

It also enables job seekers to enhance their soft skills such as; business etiquette, work ethic, time management, inter-personal skills, and professional networking.

Benefits also include providing a vehicle of open dialogue between the public and private sector as good corporate citizens, it assists in stimulating the economy in getting young people back to work, and equally as important it fosters a sense of inclusion in belonging to the Bermudian community.

This initiative proved to be a testament to the successful efforts of what public and private partnerships can accomplish.

I proudly stand here before you this evening, to thank each and every one of you for a job well done.

congratulations on this cooperation between government and private sector.

on a side note, from looking at this picture (which is somewhat representative of Bermuda), the country has a serious problem with obesity.

  2. Are you all joking?
do you really know how many Bermudian’s are out of work and how many non-Bermudian’s are here in Bermuda just look around, and what are you going to do with 35,000 Bermudian’s out of work. would you say thats a real problem? have fun!

  3. choices says:

    Patrice, Patrice, Patrice

why did you leave the job at the Bank?

when you lose constituency 10 the Premier will not be able to simply put you in the Senate over people who are actually worki.

please reapply to the Bank for a job, or go round Ascots to the next Set to get something lined up.

  4. Jes sayin says:

Can you get more information please? I would have like to see a list of the 30 employers who are going to employ these 30 people. That to me is more concrete evidence of the success of this initiative rather than just Minister Minors’ speech.
