Video: ‘Falling In Love’ In Bermuda

December 7, 2011

An unofficial new  video for Pink Martini’s Hollywood-style signature song “Let’s Never Stop Falling In Love” plays out against a romantic Bermuda movie background.

Using footage from the 1979 Oscar-nominated comedy/drama “Chapter Two”, the video features that film’s stars James Caan and Marsha Mason at a variety of Bermuda locations including Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, St. George’s and cavorting at a South Shore cove.

Chart-topping jazz orchestra Pink Martini specialises in retro-sounding Hollywood musical-type numbers produced with a touch of modern flair.

“Pink Martini draws inspiration from the romantic Hollywood musicals of the 1940s or ‘50s — with a more global perspective,” said orchestra founder Thomas Lauderdale. “We write a lot of songs –but we also champion songs like Ernesto Lecuona’s ‘Andalucia’ or ‘Amado mio’ from the Rita Hayworth film ‘Gilda’or ‘Kikuchiyo to mohshimasu’ ['My Name I Kikuchiyo'] made famous in the 1960s by the great Japanese group Hiroshi Wada & His Mahina Stars.

“In that sense we’re a bit like musical archeologists, digging through recordings and scores of years past and rediscovering beautiful songs.”

“Let’s Never Stop Falling In Love” is an original number from the 13-man Oregon orchestra and was itself featured on the soundtrack of the Angelina Jolie/Brad Pitt movie “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”

“Chapter Two” was based on a semi-autobiographical Broadway play by Neil Simon. The plot focuses on George Schneider [Caan], a recently widowed writer who is introduced to divorced actress Jennie Malone [Mason]. They embark on a whirlwind romance, marry and honeymoon in Bermuda — even though neither is sure they are emotionally equipped to handle a new partnership.

  6. True Bermudian says:

Sadly Bermuda has deteriorated into a vindictive spoiled over pampered spiteful culture suffering from the ignorant you owe me it’s my turn now syndrome and more concerned with misguided false feelings of entitlement than they are with actually working to compete with the rest of the world.

  7. Hey Bye says:

True Bermudian, I could have not said it better!
In those days, trickle down economics, worked.Nothing is trickling now, thanks to a Bermudian made recession.
Policies and a unfriendly climate, that chases away capital and people.
The rich will always have wealth, recession or not and that is how Bermuda had always skirted global problems. They provided the money in the economy in one way or the other, which allowed full employment;from executive positions to bus boys in the hotels.

Other jurisdictions have attracted away our capital, business and tourism.
In the unlikely event things should turn around here politically and economically.;we will have one hell of a time, trying to get them to return. Especially after they have settled in,elsewhere.
