[Updated] The Bahamas registered ship ‘Federal Fuji’ made its way to Bermuda last night [Jan.9] to drop off two sick crew members.

The vessel rendezvoused with the pilot cutter ‘St. David’ at the sea buoy where the transfer took place just before 7:00pm. The pilot boat met with the ship, transferring the two Indian nationals and bringing them ashore at approximately 7:50pm, where an awaiting ambulance transported them to King Edward Memorial Hospital.

On Sunday morning [Jan.8] at approximately 4:30am, the ‘Federal Fuji’ advised Bermuda Harbour Radio that they were diverting to Bermuda to disembark two sick male seamen.

The vessel was approximately 600 miles ESE off Bermuda. One seaman was complaining of chest pains and the other was suspected of having kidney stones.

The vessel Federal Fuji is a 17,184 gross ton merchant vessel and was on its way from Iceland to Brazil. It has continued on its voyage after disembarking the sick crew members.

Update: A Bermuda Radio spokesperson said, “Bermuda Radio (RCC Bermuda) received a satellite telephone call from the Master of M/V ‘Federal Fuji’ stating that the Second Engineer is suffering from chest pains and requires evacuation.

“The Master received prior medical advice from CIRM Roma recommending helicopter evacuation. RCC Bermuda informed USCG District Five who called the vessel, assessed the situation, and advised the ship to continue sailing to Bermuda, no helicopter evacuation required.

“The vessel met the pilot cutter ‘St. David’ in the vicinity of the Sea Buoy on the 9th of January at 6:50pm to transfer the Second Engineer and a second man suffering from kidney stones. An ambulance met the pilot cutter at Ordnance Island, St. George’s to transport the ambulatory men to KEMH.”
