Grandmother: ‘I Did Not Give Them Permission’

April 17, 2012

An 88-year-old grandmother testified in Supreme Court today [Apr.17], telling the jury she did not give her two granddaughters permission to spend the money in her bank accounts.

45-year-old Lorraine Elizabeth Smith and 43-year-old Audra-Ann Bean are presently on trial, accused of stealing approximately half a million dollars from their grandmother.

The witness took the stand, and was allowed to sit very close to defence lawyer Larry Mussenden. It appears that this was done so that the 88 year-old could best hear the questions being put to her, and so that the Judge and Jury could best hear her very quiet answers.

After testifying today, the grandmother will return to Court tomorrow to continue the cross-examination. The sisters deny stealing half a million dollars from their grandmother, and the trial continues.

Lord have mercy…. how could these two allegedly do this to their nanna ? I love my nanna and she has alway been there for us….shame on you two…

  2. Yes says:

The lowest form of human beings ,right down there with every type of scumbag, bring back hanging there is still a need!

  3. Truth is killing' me... says:

You’d be surprised. This happens a lot on this island. Families split over greed and love of money.

  4. Truth (original) says:

If this is accurate, I am disgusted.

  5. Black Watch Pass says:

Put money between family and it will bring the worst out in them !!!

    • pepper says:

Black watch. you are so right… it is all about money !!!!amd it will always be about money …..

  6. mixitup says:

If convicted PLEASE make an example of these two! “Straight to Jail, DO NOT pass GO and most certainly DO NOT collect $200″ oh, and sell everything they own right down to their deodorant to recoup this ladies life earnings!

    • cygnet says:

LOL @ the “deodorant”. But I agree with you. How low can you go. All this stress on their granny is enough to put her at risk for bad health. Praying Granny Tucker lives to see many more years and recoups all or most her money.

  7. Politely Pompous says:

My mom is elderly but we’d never be able to pull anything over on her. She doesn’t sign ANYTHING unless she fully understands it and if she doesn’t she runs it by her minister-I guess he’s the only person she fully trusts!

I borrowed a piece of jewellery from her that I really like-and that she doesn’t even wear-and held onto it thinking she’d forget and I’d get some use out of it but NO…she hounded me until it was safely back in her hands. She’s sharp as a tack with a memory like an elephant so if we had any bright ideas about scamming her (not that we would) we’d be sorely disappointed!

This situation is so sad. These ladies are innocent until proven guilty but if found guilty I don’t know how they can hold their heads up again-especially in their church community. This is lower than low and an example of how ‘greedy killed piggy.’ I would lower my head in shame for the rest of my days if this was me.

If one abuses the power of attorney , than one will need a powerful attorney .

  9. I Love My Grenny says:

Anyone who steals from their Grenny should be thrown into solitary confinement for 46 years, dun. These 2 muglets have made ALL Bermudian youths look bad in front of their grennies!!! I don’t blame Modern Grennies 4 not trusting the youths!!!

GRENNY!!!! I WOULD NEVER STEAL FROM U, AND THATS REAL TALK! IM SERIOUS, GRENNY! DON’T LET THESE BIEZ MAKE U THINK THAT I AM CAPABLE OF SUCH A THING!

  10. imjustsaying says:

Hold tight Granny !! There are so many seniors that have had property/ money stolen from them but they are afraid to go before the courts… I applaude you Ms Tucker !!

  11. Jada Ingham says:

I would like to block all the negative comments, because this is one of my friends mother….and I would feel offended if this continues. I know what she did was wrong, but at least the money was goin to a good cause, and not goin to the drug dealer. The money was payin school fees. Bermuda Institute is not cheap. Her granny probably had ADHHA.

  12. NOYB says:

learn how to spell correct its GRANNY NOT GRENNY. Typical Bermudians don’t know the story and think there comments are relevant but there not media only gives you what you WANT to hear not what you NEED to.

    • tricks are for kids says:

Trying to be smart….learn the correct use of their and there. Yes, the media does tend to shed most things in a negative light BUT if things were on the “up and up” why is the case before the courts…surely there are some things within this that are NOT LEGIT…..So while you may say that it is NOYB……it is what it is..THEY are in court for a reason…..AND if they did steal that money than YES they deserve to be punished!!!!!!!

    • Honestly says:

      Corrections! Their not there

  13. FACTS says:

@ NOYB sort yourself out. The nerve of you to TRY and correct someone elses spelling and your grammer is all over the place. LOFL

  14. Just One says:

Why do some of the people that post here always make such personal attacks at each other? I guess it’s easy under the cover of anonymity. Shame, we used to be just a loving and understanding community. …

Correct me if I’m wrong, without name calling etc etc, but I don’t think that the “media” has reported as to why the grandmother agreed to go to the bank and sign the documents for both women.

Was she tricked thinking that she was signing a document for something else like an ATM card? Why did the grandmother sign documents TWICE for BOTH granddaughters? I don’t think these answers have been properly reported yet, but please correct me if I’m wrong!

Something just doesn’t add up, no pun intended…

  15. Winnie says:

NOYB you make me laugh, how dare you try to correct someone when your grammer is PISS POOR. You started off using a common letter on learn then you used there twice instead of their, and of course no punctuation between there and not, smh. Btw for the typical Bermudian granny comes out sounding like grenny. Get ya self a proof reada, lol, lol. Back to the regular schedule program so many of us hide behind christianity, when we are more evil than the regular person out there in the world. I do hope these two are dealt with to the fullest extent of the law.

    • Just a thought... says:

Misspelling aside, part of what NYOB said bears repeating. I have a sneaky suspicion that none of those who have commented know what really went on in this case. The media reports the story as they hear it. Who’s to say that there isn’t more that has yet to be told? Until all the facts are on the table it may be best to keep comments about how “disgusting” these 2 women are to yourselves… I for one absolutely hate having to be the one to remove my foot out of my mouth. So until the facts of this case have been released in its entirety, my lips are sealed..

    • CollegeGirl says:

what makes you think they’re christian??
