City Of Hamilton’s Ceremony For New Officials
The City of Hamilton and the newly elected Board Members hosted a public ceremony yesterday [June 25] at City Hall, with Mayor of Hamilton Graeme Outerbridge saying “We feel it is extremely important to be able to share the process for taking the oath of public office.”
Last month Mr Outerbridge was elected as the new Mayor of Hamilton, defeating incumbent Charles Gosling with 55.33% of the vote. The Hamilton election was the first one held in which it was one vote per resident, previously votes were allotted based on how many properties a person owned. The change occurred following the passing of the Municipalities Reform Act.
The Municipal Election last month also saw the old Board Members defeated, with new faces on the Board now including Carlton Simmons, Gwyneth Rawlins, Donal Smith, Larry Scott, Troy Symonds, Keith Davis and George Scott.
Prior to the event, Mayor of Hamilton Graeme Outerbridge said that he hoped the Ceremony will become a City of Hamilton tradition following each Municipal election. Those in attendance included Governor George Fergusson, Premier Paula Cox, Government Ministers and members of Bermuda’s clergy.
This is truly an historical moment and history being made before our very eyes and we must commend this team for coming together with a vision that I believe will go far and benefit Bermuda for many years to come.
Truly a moment to be proud and to say yes we can as the changing of the old guard into the hands of the new takes place,we can only expect greater and better things to come forth out of a group that I believe was hand picked by God Himself and no other.
the proof will be in the pudding. lets see if the will do things with a balanced budget, or will they give themselves to greed. time will tell.
Hand picked by God….what an absolute crock, are you from the funny farm, God loves everyone.
