Video Previews: Weekend Film Series

June 21, 2012

A documentary film about marine species facing extinction, featuring a Q and A afterwards featuring local scientists, and an award-winning French film about a young woman’s romantic entanglements, are the featured films at the ‘Weekend Film Series’ on Sunday, June 24.

A Sea Change: Imagine a World Without Fish, will screen at 3 p.m., followed by a Q and A featuring Dr. Tammy Trott, Government’s Senior Marine Resources Officer, and Dr. Samantha de Putron, Associate Scientist at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Science. The feature film, Goodbye First Love, will screen at 5.15 p.m.

A Sea Change, winner of six international awards, tells how rising levels of carbon dioxide are dissolving in our oceans, changing sea water chemistry and putting marine species under threat of extinction. Narrator Sven Huseby travels to Alaska, California, Washington, and Norway, seeking answers about what can be done to address the issue.

Goodbye First Love is a sensual, emotional and poignant portrait of a bright young woman in the wake of her first romance.

Camille falls in love with Sullivan, and when he leaves her to travel the world, she charts his trip, looking forward to his return. Eventually, she gets on with her life, and finds a new love, which is put to the test when Sullivan shows up after eight years, forcing her to choose between the past and the present.

Tickets, $15, can be purchased in the Oceans Gift Shop at the BUEI, or by calling 297-7314. The ‘Weekend Film Series’, sponsored by Gosling’s, is a joint production of Bermuda Documentary Film Festival director Duncan Hall and the BUEI.
