Tropical Storm Joyce ‘Potential Threat’ To Bermuda
[Updated] In their latest update today [Aug 23] the Bermuda Weather Service [BWS] said that Tropical Storm Joyce is a “potential threat” to Bermuda.
The BWS said the storm’s closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hrs is forecast to be 389 nautical miles to the south-east at 6pm on Sunday August 26.
The U.S National Hurricane Center in Miami said that Tropical Storm Joyce’s maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph [65 km/h] with higher gusts, and that little change in strength is forecast during the next 48 hours. The image below of Tropical Storm Joyce was captured by NASA’s GOES-13 satellite at 7:45am EDT today.
Update Aug 24 8.21am: Joyce has been downgraded to a Depression, and the BWS said it remains a “potential threat” to Bermuda. In their update this morning, the BWS said the closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hrs is forecast to be 297 nm to the SSE at 6am on Monday [Aug 27].
