Place Joins List Of Carifta Standard Qualifiers
The Bermuda National Athletics Association joined with the Bermuda Pacers Track Club to host a track meet today [Mar 2] at the National Sports Centre in Devonshire.
BNAA spokesperson Donna Watson said, “After today’s track meet we have 11 athletes who have reached the standard. Jeneko Place ran 10.89 which is the B standard for the U20 100m. Once again Tiara Derosa threw 2 PBS in the discus with a throw of 34.65 and shot put 11.39.
“We also had Juma Mouchette running the 5000m and ran a time of 17.01 just missing the B standard of 17.00. We have several athletes just outside of the standard Zakiyyah Showers 11.35 in the 3000m with the standard being 11.15.
“Kionje Somner 11.55 in the U17 100 with the standard being 11.30. Jahnai Perinchief in the U17 High Jump 1.81 with the standard 1.85. We have Tahiraah Butterfield and Tyra Stovell close to the standard in the U20 100m. Of course we have Dage Minors who is competing in the US and competing very well.
“Justin Donawa who is home for his break and will get to compete during his stay. Jaret Simons is also in school in Jamaica and we are looking forward to receiving some good results from him also.
“We are in high preparation for Carifta as the deadline for final entries being March 11th and we have 4 more track meets scheduled. The charter is ready to take off with just a few seats available.
“This year we are hoping for around 20 athletes with us looking at quality not quantity. Of course with the costs being more this year we would not be able to have the numbers like last year.”
