This Sunday: Codfish Breakfast Fundraiser
This Sunday [Mar 24] you can dine in or pick up your breakfast at the Queen’s Club on Cedar Avenue in Hamilton or have your breakfast delivered to you, as part of a fundraiser to help Bermuda’s entertainers raise money.
The Codfish Breakfast in Bed Fundraiser is the first initiative to help Bermuda’s performers raise travel funds, allowing them to perform at Bermuda Day in London on May 27, 2013.
The goal is to help people raise funds so they can purchase tickets to London and pay for accommodations to represent Bermuda at the event. The artists will have to work for their funds so they will be assisting with every aspect of the fundraiser.
Bermuda Day in London is an extension of the Annual Bermuda Heritage Day celebrations. It is a free day-long family event that celebrates Bermudian culture, heritage and history. The initiative was started in 2009 by Spredluv Music and Arts collective, founded by London-based Bermudian-born Beatnik Rubaine, as a way to bring Bermudians living and studying in the UK together to celebrate the island’s heritage and to expose UK and European residents to what Bermuda has to offer.
Since its humble beginnings, Bermuda Day in London has been held at The Lockside Lounge in the famous Camden Market and has grown considerably in popularity, from a gathering of fifty plus Bermudians to an event welcoming masses of Bermudians and UK residents alike.
Hosting the Bermuda Day event showcases Bermudian DJs, musicians and artists and other creative talent living from the island, and traditional Bermudian foods and drinks are also available.
The event also provides an opportunity to promote Bermuda and spark an interest in all things Bermudian to potential tourists to the island.
