UK Club Set To Sign Bermuda Striker Russell

March 31, 2013

russellEngland’s Ilkeston Football club are poised to boost their strike-power over the final weeks of the current season by giving Bermuda international Antwan Russell the chance to make an impact at their New Manor Ground.

The Robins are currently awaiting international clearance for the 26-year-old front-runner and the hope is that he will be available to make his debut in next Thursday’s home game against Buxton.

Kevin Wilson — manager of the Northern Premier League Premier Division team — told the “Nottingham Post” newspaper today [Mar. 31] that Mr. Russell “comes highly recommended …We want to give him a chance to show what he can do.

After starting his career with Dandy Town Hornets in the Bermuda Premier Division, he has spent the past two years with Bermuda Hogges.

Mr. Russell also spent time in Canada on trial with Toronto and has notched three goals in four international appearances.

Mr. Wilson added: “Bermudian strikers have a history of doing well in this country. I played with Shaun Goater at Notts County and when I was player-coach at Walsall, Kyle Lighbourne and I scored the best part of 150 goals between us in three seasons.

“It’s a tough ask to think Antwan can come and make that sort of impact … but it’s up to him.”
