Hospitality Students Receive START Certificates

On Wednesday [Apr 24] Minister of Tourism Development and Transport Shawn Crockwel attended the Bermuda Department of Tourism’s Hospitality Student Reception at the Bermuda Society of Arts at City Hall. During the reception Minister Crockwell presented certificates to students who had completed the Bermuda Hospitality Institute [BHI] START programme.

START is a certification program offered by the American Hotel & Lodging Association. BHI has offered the course to high school students ages 16-18 for the last three years and more than 30 students have completed the programme. Students are required to complete 180 hours for the course with two evenings a week spent at Bermuda College after school and every Saturday morning for four months. Once they pass the course exam, there is a post-course 90 day on the job requirement for certification.
