New Courses On African History, Culture

black_history_monthThe Ashay University history and cultural course “Before Enslavement” will commence in  Bermuda in September, 2013.

Facilitated by the “Guide to Self-Knowledge” workbook, the first course in the series begins at the beginning, focussing on African life before enslavement.

Class topics include the African Foundation Timeline, African Philosophy and Cosmology, the African Empires and Sacred Thoughts from Ancient Kemet, Dagara, Dogon and Yoruba.

Ashay University will meet on Thursdays in September for a four weeks – September 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 6 to 8 pm. The cost is $135 and includes the “Guide To Self-Knowledge” workbook.

A second Ashay University course – - “Know Thy Self” — begins February 2014, dealing with self-empowerment, knowledge of global African history and the struggle for racial justice in Bermuda’s

“The course will touch on such individuals and incidents as Sally Bassett, the slave conspiracy of 1761 and Mary Prince,” said a spokesperson. “It will also deal with historical issues that we must still deal with including, mis-education, the curse of Willie Lynch and other maladies with roots in enslavement.”

Again, a “Guide to Self-Knowledge” workbook will facilitate the curriculum.
