Video: BELCO Cup Announced For May 18 & 19
Today Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited [BELCO] and the Bermuda Cricket Board [BCB] announced plans for the 11th annual BELCO Cup, which takes place May 18-19.

The top four teams from the 2012 season will battle to become finalists on Saturday, May 18 during the semi-finals. Southampton Rangers will take on 2012 BELCO Cup champions, Baileys Bay at St. Davids Cricket Club, while third time entrants, Willow Cuts will square-off with BELCO Cup hosts, St. Davids in Somerset. Both games begin at 11a.m., admission is free.
On Sunday, May 19 the winners of the semi-final matches will compete for the 2013 BELCO Cup championship in St. Davids beginning at 11a.m. [admission is $5.00 for adults, 18 or older]. Warner Gombeys will perform during the half-hour between-innings break.
Each year, BCB, BELCO, Somerset Cricket Club and St. Davids Cricket Club team-up to donate proceeds from the final to a charity. This year the BCB National Youth Academy will be the 2013 recipient of all entry fees and any additional donations that fans may wish to make.
The National Youth Academy provides Bermudas talented young cricket players with a comprehensive programme to develop their skills while also providing them with the tools they need to become well-rounded members of the community. The President of the Umpires Association, Mr. Walisford Manders has announced that the Umpires will also donate their fee to The National Youth Academy.
Denton Williams, BELCO Chief Operating Officer said, “We are proud to host our 11th year of BELCO Cup, a sporting event which has molded itself into Bermudas springtime traditions. BELCO is equally pleased to support local cricket, as well as Bermudas youth through the National Youth Academy and its efforts. We look forward to enjoying two days of cricket and another successful year of BELCO Cup.”
Nyon Steede, Vice President of the Bermuda Cricket Board stated, “The BCB is very excited to launch the season with this extremely popular competition. It always provides outstanding cricket.
“The BELCO Cup is a major talking point in the cricket community as clubs compete to maintain a place in the top four teams in the domestic league. I look forward to a weekend of thrilling senior cricket. I would like to thank all those involved in organising the BELCO Cup and encourage everyone to come out to enjoy this popular local community event.”
